Here's one final update to all the NEW Attractions and Places that have opened this year in 2023!

If you are looking for new places and attractions to bring the family to, good news - there are 20 26 43 of them to take your pick from. In fact, more than 40% of these places are actually FREE to visit so there's no excuse to make use of the remaining school holidays to create more memories!

1. KIDZWORLD @ SINGAPORE ZOO NEW ADDITION!

KidzWorld @ Singapore Zoo has opened after refurbishment and in short, everything has been levelled up here - from an interactive playground to meeting animals, to a new water maze!

The experiences have been designed to spark and grow love for animals, wildlife and nature among kids. Here's what to expect:

Play Trees

Engage in sensory exploration at two treehouses, one inspired by the natural environment while the other features play elements that mimic sounds of nature. Expect slides, trampolines, climbing nets, swings and sand pits!

Splish Splash

Kids enjoy a splashing good time as they navigate the randomly changing water maze patterns. If you're enrolled in the Ranger Buddies programme, you will be able to enter a special code into the C.O.U.R.A.G.E. launch pad and control the maze pattern!

Animal Land

Get up close with animals like Axis deer, pigs, tortoises, falabellas and goats at this outdoor exhibit.

Little Paws

Get a chance to snuggle up to the furry residents at Kitty Corner, Canine Clubhouse and Rabbit Patch.

Animal Buddies

In place of the Animal Friends presentation at the previous Rainforest KidzWorld amphitheatre, guests can now swing by Animal Buddies to catch short presentations featuring animals such as falabellas, goats and pigs and get moving through uplifting mass dance.

KidzWorld is also Home of the Ranger Buddies (additional fee), an edutainment programme aimed at nurturing every child to become a future-ready and responsible global citizen by driving positive change for themselves, others and the world. With the newly soft-launched Ranger Buddies Quest that features unique interactive park experiences, children may set out from the Base Camp on phygital missions to visit outposts, equipped with smart binoculars and a companion app. There are three outposts in KidzWorld where children can discover more about animal health, animal care and animal nutrition.

2. KPMG WELLNESS GARDEN @ EAST COAST PARK NEW ADDITION! FREE

Located together at East Coast Park Area D, the Wellness Garden boasts four themed sections, including a therapeutic garden, a nature playgarden, a nature fitness area and a pond trail.

Kids will love the new coastal-themed Nature Playgarden which allows them to roleplay as an explorer or a boat captain with play spaces such as the ‘Kelong’ and ‘Stranded Cargo’. Kids aged between 2 and 12 years old can play in a sandpit, create beats with musical instruments such as hand pipes and tongue drums, and jump on a trampoline! Of particular note is the ‘Driftwood’ play area, which has 2 different areas of different challenge levels - one for kids aged 2 to 5 and another for kids aged 5 to 12. In addition, the area has lookout platforms accessible by ramps, and a wheelchair-accessible sand play table.

The nature fitness area is where parents can burn a few calories while the kids are playing at the adjacent nature playgarden. Use the ‘Cardio Hill’ to engage in a cardiovascular workout or test your agility on balancing beams and stepping pods with various levels of difficulty, made with repurposed logs from East Coast Park.

If you just feel like chilling, head to the elevated deck which offers panoramic views of the therapeutic garden, the pond as well as the sea. At the therapeutic garden, interact with various herbs and edibles at the raised planters, or even enjoy foot reflexology at a quiet corner in the garden.

3. HAY DAIRIES (RELOCATED) NEW ADDITION! FREE

Hay Dairies has a new home, and it's right beside Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve. Not only is Hay Dairies the only goat farm in Singapore, it is now Singapore's first and only multi-storey animal barn. three levels of goats!

Visitors are able to walk into the farm and enjoy a free & easy tour, no prior booking required for groups less than 10 pax. There're essentially two activities that visitors can experience at Hay Dairies:

Viewing of the goat milking process

This happens once daily (except Tues) from 9am to 11am. So do head down between these timings to let the kids have a close-up look at the milking process.

Goat feeding

Goats galore at the goat barns, and get to feed them too! At the time of writing, only the first level is currently open to public but it's still a pretty big area with lots of goats. Some of the more curious goats may just come up to interact.

If you wish to feed the goats, be sure to purchase Alfalfa Hay (S$5 per packet) at the shop near the farm entrance before heading into the barn. The goat barns and goat feeding areas are open to the public from 9am to 4pm while the purchase of Alfalfa Hay is available until 3pm. As you leave, be sure to stop by the shop to buy fresh goat milk (original or chocolate) too.

4. THREE THERAPEUTIC GARDENS NEW ADDITION! FREE

Three new therapeutic gardens have opened in the north!

Therapeutic gardens are located within parks and are designed based to facilitate our interactions with nature, with each area carefully planned for a range of users in mind, across different age groups and needs.

𝗦𝗘𝗠𝗕𝗔𝗪𝗔𝗡𝗚 𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗞 (most fun for kids!)

The second largest therapeutic garden in SG (largest being the one at Jurong Lake Gardens), it comprises an Active Zone and a Passive Zone for different activity levels.

Of particular interest to kids will be the Natural Playscape area which is made of natural elements such as boulders, tepees, log clusters and wooden balancing beams. The garden also features a Forest Classroom and is also equipped with features specially curated for users with special needs, such as children with mild autism, and seniors with dementia.

BONUS: Be sure to let the kids visit the adjacent huge Battleship Playground too!

Unique features exclusive to here include wheelchair-accessible exercise bridge to enhance and strengthen users’ physical mobility, mound therapy stairs with steps of shorter heights to help users improve strength and overall mobility, three-generational fitness corner, a sensory walk, and two lawns.

5. SKYPARK BY KIZTOPIA @ CINELEISURE NEW ADDITION!

SkyPark By Kiztopia @ Cineleisure is a brand new play park that targets older kids, teens and even parents!

Spanning over 8,000 square feet, this action-packed indoor adventure play park offers a variety of thrilling challenges including rock climbing, high elements and trampolines.

The main highlight, though, is the multi-level play structure that gamifies challenges and fosters friendly competition. Housed in a box-like structure, participants enter the it wearing electronic wristbands.

Scattered all round the 2-level structure are checkpoints that they have to tap with their bands. Different logos give different points, and they have to clear obstacles in order to get to them. Some of the more challenging ones include climbing a vertical rope to reach the ceiling, crossing a shaky bridge and stacking giant transparent bubble balls onto one another to climb upwards (most fun of all imo)! The one who collects the most points gets to be on the leaderboard and bragging rights!

8. NEW SECTION OF PASIR PANJANG PARK NEW ADDITION! FREE

Now it’s possible to cycle, run or walk from West Coast Park to Pasir Panjang Park, and all the way to Pasir Panjang Food Centre, thanks to newly-opened section of Pasir Panjang Park.

A small section of the park (450m-long) opened behind the food centre in 2021, and that included a Nature Playgarden with sand play for kids. Now, an additional 2.2km-long section has opened which pays tribute to Pasir Panjang’s history as one of Singapore’s major port terminals, with heritage and maritime-themed elements.

Of particular interest are 3 shipping containers repurposed as shelters. Two of them exhibit maritime artefacts such as a ship telegraph (kids can try turning the lever!), a ship anchor from and an old cannon.

9. THE BUS COLLECTIVE NEW ADDITION!

Staycation at a bus hotel? Now you can stay overnight in a bus, and no bus driver is gonna chase you off! 😆

The Bus Collective is a new resort at Changi Village, and comprises of 20 buses that have been repurposed into 'hotel' rooms. Its layout is little similar to a campervan but the space being cleverly utilized with touches of sophistication that isn't present in standard hotel rooms. Each suite has marble countertops, separate toilet & bath areas (with rain showers), super comfy beds, tasteful decor and a private deck with BBQ station.

Two main room types with different bed configurations - one sleeps 3 (sofa bed & either 2 single beds or king bed) while the other sleeps 4 (bunk bed & either 2 single beds or king bed). Feeling fancy? Get the room with a round bed WITH a bathtub right in front of the bed!

And yes, the bus driver's seat still remains intact with the entire dashboard, brake and accelerator. 10. REFRESHED ANG MO KIO HERITAGE TRAIL NEW ADDITION! FREE

In a refresh of the National Heritage Board (NHB)’s refreshed Ang Mo Kio Heritage Trail, the trail delves deeper into Ang Mo Kio’s transformation from an area of plantations and farming land to a thriving residential and commercial hub; reveal lesser-known facts about its landmarks; and uncover more tales of the men and women who live and work there.

The refreshed Ang Mo Kio Heritage Trail covers 40 heritage sites and features 10 heritage markers. These include 13 new sites, as well as two new markers at the Church of Christ the King – the only Catholic church in Ang Mo Kio – and Liuxun Sanhemiao, a joint temple formed by three temples – Sam Ann Fu, Longxuyan Jinshuiguan, and Hong San Chin Huat Temple Association.

The trail also features three newly curated thematic routes exploring different aspects of Ang Mo Kio’s heritage, including Iconic Landmarks, Hidden Heartland Gems, and Scenic Fringes.

The self-guided Ang Mo Kio Heritage Trail’s companion guide and map can be downloaded from NHB’s heritage portal, Roots.gov.sg. and is FREE for everyone to enjoy.

11. LAZARUS ISLAND NEW OFFERINGS NEW ADDITION!

Lazarus Island just got more fun! Together with earlier launched Tiny Away Escape @ Lazarus Island (#27 on this list), a series of five compact accommodation units since April 2023, and a bicycle rental kiosk by Gogreen Eco Adventure on St John's Island, new additions include Lazarus Sea Sports Centre and a convenience store!

With the first water activity sea sports centre on the Southern Islands, Lazarus Sea Sports Centre offers a range of non-motorised water activities, such as stand-up paddling, kayaking and floating yoga boards - a first in Singapore - for visitors to explore the surrounding waters. Taking over the space previously occupied by Wave House on Sentosa, Tipsy Unicorn is a whimsical mix of colours and energy - and that outdoor area & pool, oh my word, it’s a great place to chill the day (& night) away!

And yes, families with kids are welcome at Tipsy Unicorn too. But do NOTE that because alcohol is served and loud music is played there, I suggest heading there for brunch (it opens at 10am) instead as the DJ starts spinning at 2pm on weekdays and 1pm on weekends.

But parents can also party, no? We all deserve to let our hair down (or whatever that’s left) sometimes so it’ll make for a great place to hang out with buddies minus the kids too!

Take the reins at the new Gallop Stable located at D'Resort, Downtown East! In addition to its current locations at Horsecity (Bukit Timah) and Pasir Ris Park, Gallop Stable has opened at Downtown East for everyone to interact with its horses.

After a round of refurbishment, the Singapore Navy Museum has re-opened its doors! Themed ‘Maritime Force for a Maritime Nation’, the refreshed three-storey museum features diverse offering across both its indoor and outdoor galleries, charting the evolution of the Republic of Singapore Navy, from its early days to the present, as well as a peek into the future.

Learn more about the Republic of Singapore Navy: from how it began, to the challenges the early sailors went through and overcame as well as view fascinating components preserved from its early warships.

23. SBG HERITAGE MUSEUM & CDL GREEN GALLERY FREE

First opened in November 2013, the Singapore Botanic Gardens Heritage Museum featured interactive and multimedia exhibits and panels detailing the Garden’s rich heritage since its inception in 1859. Refreshed and reopened in June 2023, visitors to the museum can now find out more about the Garden’s rich heritage and milestones with a particular focus on the accomplishments of the past decade through new installations and interactive exhibits.

Do also pop by the CDL Green Gallery, an eco-friendly building sited on Holttum Lawn in the Singapore Botanic Gardens. It was conceptualised as an extension of the Heritage Museum and features botanical or related exhibitions that are changed every six to nine months. Designed to be sustainable right from the start, the project introduced two eco-features for the first time in Singapore: the use of Hempcrete, a bio-composite material; and a pre-fabricated modular system that reduced on-site construction time to under 24 hours.

Pangolin Hideout

Inspired by the burrows of a pangolin, kids can unleash their sense of discovery and mimic the behaviour of the mammal with movements like climbing, burrowing and sliding.

If one play area isn't enough, how about two? Scale through the obstacles at the pangolin-themed play area where the obstacles are at a lower level - which is great news for younger kids.

Forest Stream Trail

25. BIRD PARADISE

The new Bird Paradise occupies a smaller land area than the old Jurong Bird Park but somehow, it feels so much larger! I think it has to do with how ingeniously the park made use of the ‘vertical space’ despite being smaller.

Bird Paradise consists of 10 zones, of which 8 are walk-through aviaries themed after various rainforests & habitats around the world. Visitors get up-close with different bird species via elevated boardwalks, and each aviary is seamlessly connected to one another. All amazing stuff, but the thing I love is the interactive rooms in between each aviary. Not only are these air-conditioned (yay!), they provide educational information through hands-on features that both kids & adults will love.

Some of the absolute must-visit attractions at Bird Paradise include Hong Leong Foundation Crimson Wetlands (flagmingos & a majestic waterfall - what's there not to love?), Kuok Group Wings of Asia (spot hornbills, spoonbills and other fascinating birds of Asia and go on a short Adventure Trail too!), and Ocean Network Express Penguin Cove (cute penguins, 'nuff said).

And of course, kids will love the WET & DRY playgrounds too! Egg Splash (9:30am – 5:30pm) is an egg-themed wonderland which offers wet play zones, with water slides, sprays and shallow pools while Treetop Play allows one to bounce on the trampolines and scale the nets like the park's feathered residents! 26. RAIL CORRIDOR (NORTH) FREE

Rail Corridor (North) has re-opened! The stretch from Upper Bukit Timah Truss Bridge (opposite Rail Mall) to Kranji MRT station is now open for everyone to enjoy. Now, you can walk along the Rail Corridor from Spooner Road near Tanjong Pagar to Kranji MRT - from south to north, all 21km of it!

Here are some things to take note for Rail Corridor (North):

- The new stretch starts from Upper Bukit Timah Truss Bridge. Entry point is at Rail Mall or at the overhead bridge in front of Rail Mall.

- Cross the bridge and head to the lookout deck where you can enjoy the scenic view of the lush Bukit Timah Nature Reserve and Dairy Farm Nature Park.

- Hike further down to the new Hillview Bridge. Railway tracks were embedded into the flooring of the bridge to remind visitors of the Rail Corridor’s history as a railway.

- After crossing the Hillview Bridge, there is a diverted route as the next section is still under refurbishment. Head down the ramp and walk along the main road until you reach the next entry point (opp CHIJ Our Lady Queen of Peace).

- The Rail Corridor continues via a gravel path until Ten Mile Junction, where you have to cross the road and head to Pang Sua PCN.

- Walk along the PCN until you see a bridge on your right. Cross it and continue north along the Rail Corridor.

- From there, it’s pretty straightforward although do note you have to cross 2 roads along the way.

- This portion runs parallel to Woodlands Road and continues all the way to Kranji MRT station.

- The new Kranji node opposite Kranji MRT features a 250m rustic nature trail and next to it, a 2,000 sqm events field suitable for community events.

27. TINY AWAY ESCAPE @ LAZARUS

Stay overnight on Lazarus Island in these spruced up tiny homes! Tiny Away Escape @ Lazarus consists of 5 eco-friendly low-carbon accommodations and they are cosy and well-stocked!

With ORTO's lease at its Yishun compund ending on 30 June 2023, some of the former tenants have relocated at West Coast. Located directly opposite Haw Par Villa, it occupies the former Westway building and is home to F&B outlets and some interesting lifestyle stores.

One of them is Ignite Spaces Singapore, which is a huge gaming space for everyone. Gaming comes in the form of good ol’ board games or cozy gaming rooms with Nintendo Switch or PS5 game consoles. 29. PUNGGOL REGIONAL LIBRARY FREE

Punggol Regional Library opens with the first two floors are entirely dedicated to children! Located within One Punggol, the library occupies a total of 5 levels!

FIRST LEVEL

- Stories Come Alive Room: It features interactive screens that animate Singaporean poems across the four official languages as well as having regular storytelling sessions every 2nd & 4th Fridays of the month (3pm to 3.30pm).

- Toy Library: The first permanent toy library which offers a variety of toys to encourage dramatic, sensory and creative play among kids.

- Tinker Tots: A dress-up area where kids can put on costumes and indulge in make-believe play as they read books within the area.

SECOND LEVEL

- Storyteller Cove: Kids can go on storytelling journey across three sections - Island of Tales, Kingdom of Books & Forest of Fables - and come up with their own tales, prompts included along the way.

- Spark!Lab: Set up in partnership with the Smithsonian Institution of the United States, this tinkering space lets kids tackle hands-on problems independently through a host of activities. In addition, Levels 3 to 5 of the Punggol Regional Library offer spaces for teenagers, seniors, and freelancers and aspiring business owners.

Teenagers can look forward to a Study Zone and a Teenspace, which will host hands-on workshops and talks based on trending topics for teens to spark their interest in reading. These are on Level 3. Punggol residents can discover stories about Punggol, with the area’s history dating back 200 years. The Lens of Literature on Level 3 is a new multimedia interactive showcase of curated poems, novels and short story excerpts about Punggol by Singapore writers. There is also the Punggol Stories exhibition at Singaporium at Level 4, which presents selected stories, with some contributed by the community, and histories of Punggol.

30. ACTION MOTION

Action Motion is Singapore's first digital active experience arena with a score-tabulating gamifier system. It features Augmented- Reality (AR) bouldering walls, AR trampoline, multi-level obstacle course and a net maze.

Simply tap your wrist band on the respective panels before each installation and the gamifier system will track your scores and timings. At the end of the whole experience, participants' results are displayed on a leader board. Nothing like having a competitive element to up the fun!

36. PERANAKAN MUSEUM FREE

After 4 years of renovation, Peranakan Museum Singapore has re-opened! Spread over three floors, the museum explores the Peranakan identity through universal themes of “Origins”, “Home”, and “Style” with each permanent gallery having its own distinctive look and feel, and spotlights a particular aspect of Peranakan culture.

Level one's Origins gallery showcases the diverse origins and evolution of Peranakan communities. Level two's Home galleries feature objects related to family and community life, revealing a range of Peranakan customs, foods, languages and beliefs. Check out especially the ceramics and food culture gallery which houses some of the best and rarest examples of Peranakan ‘nyonyaware’! Level three's Style galleries are dedicated to Peranakan fashion and decorative textiles, like the iconic sarong kebaya.

Granted that the galleries may be a tad dry for younger kids so what are there for kids at the new Perankan Museum?

1. Exploration Zone: Located on Level 2, this dedicated space has tables and chairs for the young ones where they can do crafting, drawing and colouring. Activities such as storytelling will also be held here.

2. Throughout the museum, look out for pink panels titled 'ANAK ANAK'. These have been specially printed for children and explain the significance of the exhibits in a more engaging manner. Specifically chosen due to their appeal to kids, they include a special birth carriage and an 'ang ku kueh' mould.

3. Kids can pick up a FREE copy of an Activity Trail booklet at the admission counter and complete the activities within as they tour the musuem.

37. Aqua Adventure

Aqua Adventure is Singapore's first integrated all-weather water adventure centre. It spans 3 storeys, featuring Singapore's longest indoor waterslide at 114m for the double rider slide (green) and an 85m long indoor Black Hole Water Slide with Aqualucent Strips (orange/white).

But more than that, it is also home to an AquaCourse, an indoor aquatic challenge rope course - yes, prepare to get wet while attempting the course! Located above the Laze Pool, the Aquatic Challenge Rope Course offers eight engaging and interactive obstacles that require the participants to walk across narrow beams or hanging steps, while getting splashed from water buckets.

Aqua Adventure also has dry activities including an indoor net obstacle course and climbing walls. For those who just want to chill, there is a laze pool as well.

NOTE: There is a minimum height requirement of 1.25m, a minimum weight of 30kg and a maximum weight of 120kg. There is no age requirement for the activities. However, children under 12 years old are required to have adult supervision in the pool.

40. REFRESHED TOA PAYOH HERITAGE TRAIL FREE

The National Heritage Board (NHB)’s refreshed Toa Payoh Heritage Trail expounds on the history of Singapore’s “model town” and tell the lesser-known stories of Toa Payoh’s significant landmarks and ubiquitous locales.

First launched in 2014 as NHB’s 11th heritage trail, the Toa Payoh Heritage Trail traced the development of the area from swampland to a “model” estate, which subsequently became home to iconic religious and community institutions.

The refreshed Toa Payoh Heritage Trail covers 29 heritage sites and features 10 heritage trail markers, with two new marked sites comprising Block 53, also known as the “VIP Block”, and the iconic Toa Payoh Dragon Playground.

As part of the refresh, three newly curated thematic routes will bring trail-goers on different journeys vis-a-vis (1) the evolution of public housing design, (2) the histories of religious institutions in Toa Payoh and (3) the everyday heritage of the area’s community institutions. These self-guided routes, which trail-goers can embark on in their own time and according to their interests, are:

Of Public Housing & Shared Spaces (1.5 hours on foot, 4.5 km)

This trail explores the architectural development of HDB blocks, communal spaces and town planning, which reflected the needs and aspirations of Singaporean homeowners over the decades.

Of Faiths & Beliefs (2 hours with public transport, 6 km)

This trail showcases the temples, mosques, churches and institutions that represent the diverse communities which live, work and worshipped in Toa Payoh.

Of Community Institutions & Common Spaces (0.5 hours on foot, 1.5 km)

This trail focuses on the institutions and spaces that continue to play an active role in the sporting, cultural and social lives of Toa Payoh residents.

41. SKATEPARK @ LAKESIDE GARDEN FREE

Practise your moves and tricks at SkatePark @ Lakeside Garden!

Grab your skateboard and head down to SkatePark @ Lakeside Garden, which is Singapore’s largest outdoor skate park, and the first to include a parkour park and bouldering wall.

Designed with inputs from sporting communities, this skate park has five skate pods catering to different skill levels – Learn to Skate Pod, Skate Drain Pod, Mini Bowl Pod, Big Bowl Pod and Plaza Pod, which is sheltered for all-weather use.

The Sky Terrace on Level 3 at the newly-reopened Shaw Plaza consists of an outdoor play area that is designed to excite, engage and entertain kids in active fun!

The highlight of the area has to be the Wallhola vertical playground where kids can climb up and down within a caged area, complete with a slide!

For the younger kids, there are the little tunnels and trampoline to keep them entertained as well.
