1. THE PALAWAN @ SENTOSA

The Palawan @ Sentosa has opened with 2 beach clubs - one for families with young kids and another for the older crowd! Plus, there’s an mini 18-hole golf course for all ages too!

SPLASH TRIBE

Remember Port of Lost Wonder? In its place is Splash Tribe, Singapore’s premier family-oriented beach club. With a sandcastle-themed play zone complete with water slides & wading pools, infinity-edge pool, and food & drinks, this is the perfect place for families with kids to spend a day out!

Choose from poolside or in-water sun loungers to elaborate two-storey private gazebos to chill - a minimum spend amount applies (from $50 to $600) depending on the seating you reserve. Reservation for the dining table has no minimum spending requirement. However, a cover charge of $10 is applicable for every guest 5 years old and above, regardless of the seating.

A beach club featuring an iconic swim-up bar in the main pool overlooking the shoreline of Palawan beach, +Twelve also has 12 terraced private cabanas, each with their own plunge pool. This beach club is geared towards adults, as all pools are restricted to patrons above 18 years old only. 

Select from casual spots on the beach, poolside daybeds and lounges or the exclusive cabanas on the terrace - a minimum spend amount applies (from $100 to $800) depending on the seating you reserve. ULTRAGOLF

UltraGolf features a tournament-worthy course spanning over 1,900 square metres with 750m of playing length. Each of its 18 holes feature 2 tee positions for both seasoned and beginner players.

Rates start from $12 (aged 3-12) and $15 (13 & above) for off-peak timings to $18 (aged 3-12) and $22 (13 & above).

HYDRODASH

Take on the ultimate water adventure at Hydrodash, Singapore’s first and only floating aqua park. Dash, slide, leap and repeat as you conquer our inflatable obstacle course on the water. With varying challenge levels, HydroDash is the perfect attraction for bonding over a day of thrills, spills and laughter. Tickets from $19 for 1-hour of play.

At the time of writing, the DOG RUN (free to enter) and FOOD TRUCKS have opened. HyperDrive, Asia's first indoor gamified electric go-kart arena, will be opening in due course.

2. GALLOP STABLE @ D'RESORT

Take the reins at the new Gallop Stable located at D'Resort, Downtown East! In addition to its current locations at Horsecity (Bukit Timah) and Pasir Ris Park, Gallop Stable has opened at Downtown East for everyone to interact with its horses.

Go on a pony ride, feed the horses, and get the chance to help to groom the horses too! Kids as young as three years old can go on a ride, or you can take a tour of the stables to learn more about horses in general. There is also an Art & Craft corner where the young ones can try their hand at Horseshoe Painting, Window Art, Sand Art, and Mask Painting (all at additional charges).

3. SINGAPORE NAVY MUSEUM FREE

After a round of refurbishment, the Singapore Navy Museum has re-opened its doors! Themed ‘Maritime Force for a Maritime Nation’, the refreshed three-storey museum features diverse offering across both its indoor and outdoor galleries, charting the evolution of the Republic of Singapore Navy, from its early days to the present, as well as a peek into the future.

Learn more about the Republic of Singapore Navy: from how it began, to the challenges the early sailors went through and overcame as well as view fascinating components preserved from its early warships.

The young and the young at heart can also try their hands at taking out simulated enemy targets with the Navy weapons, navigate a ship through the busy Singapore Strait, steer a submarine underwater, or get a glimpse of what it is like to be the commanding officer of a frigate.

4. AIR COMBAT SENTOSA

Located at Central Beach Bazaar, Air Combat Sentosa is a unique VR experience combining state-of-the-art VR technology with the excitement of aerial warfare, providing an unparalleled sensory experience for participants.

Visitors will don a virtual reality headset and find themselves transported into the cockpit of a high performance fighter jet and enjoy a sense of exploration and exhilaration while soaring through realistic skyscapes through 6 different movements: Heave, Sway, Surge, Pitch, Roll, and Yaw. Unlike other conventional VR rides, the all-new ‘surge’ movement in Air Combat will take guests on an adrenaline rush when the fighter jet takes off from a runway.

5. SLINGSHOT SINGAPORE

Get those adrenaline pumping furiously at Slingshot Singapore, Asia’s tallest slingshot! Located at Clarke Quay, Slingshot Singapore will catapult up to 70 metres high at 160 km per hour. Designed to simulate a volcanic eruption, the Slingshot platform will tilt the two-seater gondola into a reclined position and lower riders into the heart of the ‘volcano’, before propelling them towards the skies at a force of up to 4G.

With its inclined structures at 54-metre high - equivalent to about 16 storeys - riders will be able to take in the mesmerising skyline of Singapore from a unique angle during the two-minute ride - if they dare to open their eyes! 😅

6. SBG HERITAGE MUSEUM & CDL GREEN GALLERY FREE

First opened in November 2013, the Singapore Botanic Gardens Heritage Museum featured interactive and multimedia exhibits and panels detailing the Garden’s rich heritage since its inception in 1859. Refreshed and reopened in June 2023, visitors to the museum can now find out more about the Garden’s rich heritage and milestones with a particular focus on the accomplishments of the past decade through new installations and interactive exhibits.

Do also pop by the CDL Green Gallery, an eco-friendly building sited on Holttum Lawn in the Singapore Botanic Gardens. It was conceptualised as an extension of the Heritage Museum and features botanical or related exhibitions that are changed every six to nine months. Designed to be sustainable right from the start, the project introduced two eco-features for the first time in Singapore: the use of Hempcrete, a bio-composite material; and a pre-fabricated modular system that reduced on-site construction time to under 24 hours.

7. MANDAI WILDLIFE WEST FREE

Mandai Wildlife West is an ungated public node that connects to the upcoming Bird Paradise, which means you don't need a ticket to access this area! Yes, it's FREE ENTRY FOR ALL! And that's superb news especially for kids, because of these 3 play areas:

Pangolin Hideout

Inspired by the burrows of a pangolin, kids can unleash their sense of discovery and mimic the behaviour of the mammal with movements like climbing, burrowing and sliding.

Pangolin Adventure

If one play area isn't enough, how about two? Scale through the obstacles at the pangolin-themed play area where the obstacles are at a lower level - which is great news for younger kids. 

Forest Stream Trail

At the Forest Stream Trail, kids can learn about the vulnerable riverine forest ecosystems as they weave through the root-like structures inspired by mangrove forests. And yes, they get to cool off here too by waddling through shallow waters!

Waterfall Cavern

Located at Mandai Wildlife West’s arrival point, be sure to make a stop ath the 10m-tall waterfall which is sculpted after Indonesia’s Madakaripura waterfall. You can get to the top of the waterfall by following the winding path behind a cascading water curtain and enjoy the cool mist, before arriving at the upper deck where playgrounds and F&B are located.

Of course, there is a wide variety of dining options too. Restaurants include A&W, Birds of Paradise Gelato Boutique & Sandwich Bar, COLLIN'S, Hans Union, Luke's Lobster, Leckerbaer, Mr. Holmes Bakehouse, Old Chang Kee Coffee House, Pavilion Banana Leaf and Starbucks.

8. BIRD PARADISE

The new Bird Paradise occupies a smaller land area than the old Jurong Bird Park but somehow, it feels so much larger! I think it has to do with how ingeniously the park made use of the ‘vertical space’ despite being smaller.

Bird Paradise consists of 10 zones, of which 8 are walk-through aviaries themed after various rainforests & habitats around the world. Visitors get up-close with different bird species via elevated boardwalks, and each aviary is seamlessly connected to one another. All amazing stuff, but the thing I love is the interactive rooms in between each aviary. Not only are these air-conditioned (yay!), they provide educational information through hands-on features that both kids & adults will love.

Some of the absolute must-visit attractions at Bird Paradise include Hong Leong Foundation Crimson Wetlands (flagmingos & a majestic waterfall - what's there not to love?), Kuok Group Wings of Asia (spot hornbills, spoonbills and other fascinating birds of Asia and go on a short Adventure Trail too!), and Ocean Network Express Penguin Cove (cute penguins, 'nuff said).

And of course, kids will love the WET & DRY playgrounds too! Egg Splash (9:30am – 5:30pm) is an egg-themed wonderland which offers wet play zones, with water slides, sprays and shallow pools while Treetop Play allows one to bounce on the trampolines and scale the nets like the park's feathered residents! It has a ramp for wheelchair users to get to the second level too.

9. RAIL CORRIDOR (NORTH) FREE

Rail Corridor (North) has re-opened! The stretch from Upper Bukit Timah Truss Bridge (opposite Rail Mall) to Kranji MRT station is now open for everyone to enjoy. Now, you can walk along the Rail Corridor from Spooner Road near Tanjong Pagar to Kranji MRT - from south to north, all 21km of it!

Here are some things to take note for Rail Corridor (North):

- The new stretch starts from Upper Bukit Timah Truss Bridge. Entry point is at Rail Mall or at the overhead bridge in front of Rail Mall.

- Cross the bridge and head to the lookout deck where you can enjoy the scenic view of the lush Bukit Timah Nature Reserve and Dairy Farm Nature Park.

- Hike further down to the new Hillview Bridge. Railway tracks were embedded into the flooring of the bridge to remind visitors of the Rail Corridor’s history as a railway.

- After crossing the Hillview Bridge, there is a diverted route as the next section is still under refurbishment. Head down the ramp and walk along the main road until you reach the next entry point (opp  CHIJ Our Lady Queen of Peace).

- The Rail Corridor continues via a gravel path until Ten Mile Junction, where you have to cross the road and head to Pang Sua PCN.

- Walk along the PCN until you see a bridge on your right. Cross it and continue north along the Rail Corridor.

- From there, it’s pretty straightforward although do note you have to cross 2 roads along the way.

- This portion runs parallel to Woodlands Road and continues all the way to Kranji MRT station.

- The new Kranji node opposite Kranji MRT features a 250m rustic nature trail and next to it, a 2,000 sqm events field suitable for community events.

10. TINY AWAY ESCAPE @ LAZARUS 

Stay overnight on Lazarus Island in these spruced up tiny homes! Tiny Away Escape @ Lazarus consists of 5 eco-friendly low-carbon accommodations and they are cosy and well-stocked!

Four of the accommodations come with a queen-sized bed and sofa bed. The sofa bed can fit either one adult or two kids so one house can comfortably fit 2 adults and 2 kids. The other is a smaller unit, which is good for 2 adults.

Amenities include a private bathroom with heater, TV, WiFi, safe, fridge, kettle, coffee machine, microwave, toaster, tableware, cutlery and even a smokeless grill!

11. ORTO @ WEST COAST 

With ORTO's lease at its Yishun compund ending on 30 June 2023, some of the former tenants have relocated at West Coast. Located directly opposite Haw Par Villa, it occupies the former Westway building and is home to F&B outlets and some interesting lifestyle stores.

One of them is Ignite Spaces Singapore, which is a huge gaming space for everyone. Gaming comes in the form of good ol’ board games or cozy gaming rooms with Nintendo Switch or PS5 game consoles. There are even VR gaming rooms for rent too! Rates begin at $12/pax (full day access) for all-you-can-play board games and from $20/$30 per hr for the gaming rooms (up to 4 pax). Looks like a cool place to hang out with the family!

You can also try your hand at prawning at Prawning at ORTO or play a game of pool at West Coast Cue Sports. F&B options include RedDot BrewHouse (restaurant cum brewery), 88 Seafood SGMY (zichar), Kinn Dem (Thai food), Coastal Acoustic (bar with live band), Mo's Grill and Bar, Volta Bistro @ West (live band bistro) & After Hours Gelato.

12. PUNGGOL REGIONAL LIBRARY FREE

Punggol Regional Library opens with the first two floors are entirely dedicated to children! Located within One Punggol, the library will occupy five storeys but the first two levels are opened for now - and they are filled with plenty of creative play activities for kids.

FIRST LEVEL

- Stories Come Alive Room: It features interactive screens that animate Singaporean poems across the four official languages as well as having regular storytelling sessions every 2nd & 4th Fridays of the month (3pm to 3.30pm).

- Toy Library: The first permanent toy library which offers a variety of toys to encourage dramatic, sensory and creative play among kids. 

- Tinker Tots: A dress-up area where kids can put on costumes and indulge in make-believe play as they read books within the area.

SECOND LEVEL

- Storyteller Cove: Kids can go on storytelling journey across three sections - Island of Tales, Kingdom of Books & Forest of Fables - and come up with their own tales, prompts included along the way.

- Spark!Lab: Set up in partnership with the Smithsonian Institution of the United States, this tinkering space lets kids tackle hands-on problems independently through a host of activities. Spark!Lab is free for kids aged 12 and below (kids aged 8 & below should be accompanied by an adult) and is open daily (2pm to 9pm on weekdays & 12pm to 9pm on weekends).

- Story Pods: Cosy areas where kids browse various stories via the screens.

- Cafe: For that much-needed coffee/tea break.

In addition, both levels incorporate lots of accessible features to serve the needs of people with disabilities. These include Calm Pods (quiet and safe spaces with wall and floor padding), multi-coloured keyboards with large keys (for people with visual impairments), ramps between the 2 levels, and a “Borrow-n-Go” passageway, which allows wheelchair-bound visitors to simply wheel through to borrow books via RFID technology.

13. ACTION MOTION

Action Motion is Singapore's first digital active experience arena with a score-tabulating gamifier system. It features Augmented- Reality (AR) bouldering walls, AR trampoline, multi-level obstacle course and a net maze.

Simply tap your wrist band on the respective panels before each installation and the gamifier system will track your scores and timings. At the end of the whole experience, participants' results are displayed on a leader board. Nothing like having a competitive element to up the fun!

Other activities include Valo Jump (trampoline jumping with AR games), Valo Climb (Gamified rock climbing with AR games) and Ascend Lab (rock-climbing walls with various difficulty levels).

14. Smart Nation PlayScape @ Science Centre Singapore

Jointly developed by the Smart Nation and Digital Government Group (SNDGG) and Science Centre Singapore, Smart Nation PlayScape seeks to demystify technology and inspire youths to be curious about future technologies through fun and immersive exhibits.

The showcase aims to educate on tech trends in a simple, relatable and easy-to-digest manner, where complex technological concepts are broken down and translated into exhibits where they can “feel, touch, and play”. It features a wide variety of digital technologies powering Singapore’s Smart Nation journey – comprising eight zones covering Sensors, Geospatial, Biometrics and Cybersecurity, Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Analytics, User Experience (UX) and Services, Robotics and Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR).

Some of the fun activities include programming a robot to dance, scrambling a Rubik’s cube and watching how the robot solves it, and competing with friends to see how fast the computer can recognise your doodles!

15. THE ARTGROUND - CLEAN UP. OR ELSE! FREE

“Clean Up, Or Else!” features household chores that balloon to enormous proportions to encourage active exploration and literary fun through poems and play to bring home the messages of shared responsibilities and of building good habits.

This playful idea is BIG on imagination and builds upon supersizing poems and play to encourage family conversation around the values of kindness, helpfulness and responsibility over personal and shared spaces at home.

16. EAST VILLA @ HOMETEAMNS BEDOK RESERVOIR

Set on a hill slope amidst a canopy of trees, the East Villa at HomeTeamNS Bedok Reservoir consist of 10 villas in total which offer either soothing greenery or scenic waterfront views.

17. REUNION @ NATIONAL MUSEUM SINGAPORE FREE

Reunion at National Museum of Singapore is the first purpose-built social space for seniors in a local museum. Its primary aim is to provide a museum-based intervention that embraces social inclusion, health and well-being goals for seniors, including those with mild cognitive impairment and dementia.

Comprising of a café and an activity space, it is truly a wonderful space that seniors can find both familiarity and comfort in. The activity space features a group activity area, an immersive projection cave, a Quiet Room, and music booths - all with the intention to support the mental health and well-being of seniors through stimulating memories and initiating conversations.

Designed to resemble a space that feels like our home, Reunion exudes a sense of warmth and comfort through the use of natural lighting, wide spaces and even a Quiet Room for seniors to get away from the ‘noise’. There are ample seating for seniors, and various ‘artefacts’ like the rotary dial telephone and chapteh are placed around the space to create that sense of familiarity for seniors.

And do check out Café Brera at Reunion too. Opened by Bakery Brera, the cafe serves fresh bakes and wholesome food suitable for seniors. And you know it is senior-friendly when it also serves dysphagia-friendly food which are suitable for people with swallowing difficulties. A majority of the Café Brera team also comprises seniors, as the café welcomes them to work, mingle, contribute and do things together.

19. PERANAKAN MUSEUM FREE

After 4 years of renovation, Peranakan Museum Singapore has re-opened! Spread over three floors, the museum explores the Peranakan identity through universal themes of “Origins”, “Home”, and “Style” with each permanent gallery having its own distinctive look and feel, and spotlights a particular aspect of Peranakan culture.

Level one's Origins gallery showcases the diverse origins and evolution of Peranakan communities. Level two's Home galleries feature objects related to family and community life, revealing a range of Peranakan customs, foods, languages and beliefs. Check out especially the ceramics and food culture gallery which houses some of the best and rarest examples of Peranakan ‘nyonyaware’! Level three's Style galleries are dedicated to Peranakan fashion and decorative textiles, like the iconic sarong kebaya.

Granted that the galleries may be a tad dry for younger kids so what are there for kids at the new Perankan Museum?

1. Exploration Zone: Located on Level 2, this dedicated space has tables and chairs for the young ones where they can do crafting, drawing and colouring. Activities such as storytelling will also be held here.

2. Throughout the museum, look out for pink panels titled 'ANAK ANAK'. These have been specially printed for children and explain the significance of the exhibits in a more engaging manner. Specifically chosen due to their appeal to kids, they include a special birth carriage and an 'ang ku kueh' mould.

3. Kids can pick up a FREE copy of an Activity Trail booklet at the admission counter and complete the activities within as they tour the musuem.

21. ESCAPE @ SCIENCE CENTRE (E.S.C.)

22. TOA PAYOH HERITAGE TRAIL (refreshed) FREE

The National Heritage Board (NHB)’s refreshed Toa Payoh Heritage Trail expounds on the history of Singapore’s “model town” and tell the lesser-known stories of Toa Payoh’s significant landmarks and ubiquitous locales. 

First launched in 2014 as NHB’s 11th heritage trail, the Toa Payoh Heritage Trail traced the development of the area from swampland to a “model” estate, which subsequently became home to iconic religious and community institutions. 

The refreshed Toa Payoh Heritage Trail covers 29 heritage sites and features 10 heritage trail markers, with two new marked sites comprising Block 53, also known as the “VIP Block”, and the iconic Toa Payoh Dragon Playground. 

As part of the refresh, three newly curated thematic routes will bring trail-goers on different journeys vis-a-vis (1) the evolution of public housing design, (2) the histories of religious institutions in Toa Payoh and (3) the everyday heritage of the area’s community institutions. These self-guided routes, which trail-goers can embark on in their own time and according to their interests, are:

Of Public Housing & Shared Spaces (1.5 hours on foot, 4.5 km)

This trail explores the architectural development of HDB blocks, communal spaces and town planning, which reflected the needs and aspirations of Singaporean homeowners over the decades.

Of Faiths & Beliefs (2 hours with public transport, 6 km)

This trail showcases the temples, mosques, churches and institutions that represent the diverse communities which live, work and worshipped in Toa Payoh.

Of Community Institutions & Common Spaces (0.5 hours on foot, 1.5 km)

This trail focuses on the institutions and spaces that continue to play an active role in the sporting, cultural and social lives of Toa Payoh residents.

23. SKATEPARK @ LAKESIDE GARDEN FREE

Practise your moves and tricks at SkatePark @ Lakeside Garden!

Grab your skateboard and head down to SkatePark @ Lakeside Garden, which is Singapore’s largest outdoor skate park, and the first to include a parkour park and bouldering wall.

Designed with inputs from sporting communities, this skate park has five skate pods catering to different skill levels – Learn to Skate Pod, Skate Drain Pod, Mini Bowl Pod, Big Bowl Pod and Plaza Pod, which is sheltered for all-weather use.

The Sky Terrace on Level 3 at the newly-reopened Shaw Plaza consists of an outdoor play area that is designed to excite, engage and entertain kids in active fun!

The highlight of the area has to be the Wallhola vertical playground where kids can climb up and down within a caged area, complete with a slide!

For the younger kids, there are the little tunnels and trampoline to keep them entertained as well.

Right at the other end of the Sky Terrace is a mini zip-line where kids can zip across!

26. Aqua Adventure

Aqua Adventure is Singapore's first integrated all-weather water adventure centre. It spans 3 storeys, featuring Singapore's longest indoor waterslide at 114m for the double rider slide (green) and an 85m long indoor Black Hole Water Slide with Aqualucent Strips (orange/white).

But more than that, it is also home to an AquaCourse, an indoor aquatic challenge rope course - yes, prepare to get wet while attempting the course! Located above the Laze Pool, the Aquatic Challenge Rope Course offers eight engaging and interactive obstacles that require the participants to walk across narrow beams or hanging steps, while getting splashed from water buckets.

Aqua Adventure also has dry activities including an indoor net obstacle course and climbing walls. For those who just want to chill, there is a laze pool as well.

CHILDREN'S MUSEUM SINGAPORE FREE

Children's Museum Singapore is Singapore’s first-ever museum dedicated to children 12 years old and adults CANNOT enter it without a child’s accompaniment! Formerly Singapore Philatelic Museum, it is now called Children’s Museum Singapore (CMSG) after an extensive round of refurbishments. 

Designed to serve as a “starter museum” to cultivate a love for museums and lifelong learning in kids and their families, CMSG is home to a variety of interactive installations and experiences that spark imagination and curiosity in kids of all ages.

Brimming with multimedia exhibits, artefacts and more, the museum aims to provide a conducive environment for informal learning and enchant children with an eye-opening encounter with Singapore’s heritage and culture, as well as discoveries about themselves and the world around them.
