Singapore Discovery Centre REopens with NEW attractions for kids, teens & adults!

Singapore Discovery Centre officially reopens on 31 October 2020, Saturday after a six-month renovation closure.

The entire permanent exhibits gallery has been totally revamped, with two new exciting attractions - Escape Room and Laser Tag - added to its previous offerings such as the XD Theatre, Crossfire Paintball and iWERKS Theatre.

Here are the new offerings of the newly reopened Singapore Discovery Centre (SDC):

Through The Lens Of Time (Permanent Exhibits Gallery)

 FREE for Singaporeans & PRs | Others: Adult $10 & Child $8

Journey through time to experience the evolution of Singapore from our early days under the rule of the Malay Kingdom to the bustling metropolis that we are today. But more than just the usual gallery format, SDC has made them relevant and exciting in order to better engage the youth.

Because we now live in a world of technology, no?

So the revamped gallery levrages on immersive technologies to retell the Singapore Story through different lenses, by injecting lesser-known stories and new perspectives in key moments of our history such as World War II, Konfrontasi and 1983's Cable Car Tragedy.

One of the enhancements in the gallery is through the use of augemented reality technology, brining visitors on an immersive journey as they discover how we triumphed through tumultuous times and turned challenges into opportunities, guided by the Singapore Spirit that continues to shape us today.

I love the 'Enduring Scars of War' section which tells the horrors and sufferings endured during the Japanese Occupation.

Be sure to pop by the 'Days' of Darkness' multimedia room which is modelled like a military bunker.

Grab a seat on the sandbag and through the eyes of a young girl, watch the atrocities of the war and life under extraordinary and challenging circumstances in this short film.

*NOTE:The gallery opens from mid-November 2020.

Black Laker Laser Battlefield (Laser Tag)

Child (Under 12) $12 | Adult (13 & above) $15

Minimum age: 7 years & above.

The Black Laker Laser Battlefield is the first in Singapore to include cutting-edge revolutionary projections which allows for better accuracy, reliability and ease of use during game play. Choose from 7 gameplays, where you may encounter extra-terrestrial beings, creatures, and even zombies.

Played in an indoor arena, players will attempt to score points by tagging targets and opponents with a Phaser gun. Infrared-sensitive signaling devices will be worn by each player to register hits.

Be careful and don't get caught in that “crosshair”, for every registered hit either stuns or eliminates the player. There will be obstacles, so stay alert or you may just be killed by a zombie!

Black Lake Facility (Multi-storey Immersive Escape Room)

Child (3-12) $24 | Adult (13 & above) $30

Game Duration: 60mins

Children under 13 years old must be accompanied by an adult.

Black Lake Facility is the largest multi-storey escape room attraction in Singapore, covering 13 rooms across 4 themed chapters intertwined in one story.

This multi-sensory attraction makes use of smart technology such as motion sensors, touch sensors and UV lighting in its puzzle pieces giving you an out-of-the-world escape room experience. There are 4 different experiences to choose from, each with varying thrill and difficulty level as well as each experience involves at least 3 rooms:

The Armoury (EASIEST!)
Thrill Factor: 3/5
Difficulty: 4/5

The soldiers’ living quarters bear witness to the secret and intimate conversations between soldiers.

Get a close in on the inexplicable and peculiar mysteries surrounding the seemingly innocent common military spaces. You and your team are about to find out that the nondescript bunk holds a dark and sinister secret.

The Research Lab (MOST FAMILY-FRIENDLY!)

Thrill Factor: 3/5

Difficulty: 4/5

Kids who are familiar with the Periodic Table will love it here!

Time is ticking, and the reactor will blow up in the matter of minutes! The contamination has begun and soon it will be impossible to undo the mistakes of the science team that has mysteriously vanished. The Head Scientist in charge of the laboratory has a strange fascination that she is trying to hide... Your investigation team has been assigned to power down the reactor in time and find out her secret before the inevitable happens.

The Medical Centre (TOUGHEST!)

Thrill Factor: 4/5

Difficulty: 5/5

Step inside the Medical Centre where accidents and emergencies are dealt with. This facility holds the answers to the unimaginable horrors and experiences faced by the soldiers during the previous mission. It is up to you and your team to get to the bottom of the mystery and gain a searing insight into their plight.

Here's a tip: this brain is the key to unlocking a puzzle.

The Basement (SPINE-TINGLING!)
Thrill Factor: 5/5
Difficulty: 4/5

Dark, dank and hidden from the rest. The Basement is the perfect place to conceal a gruesome tragedy. Someone or something twisted and depraved lurks below. There is imminent danger to anyone who poses a threat to its existence. Your investigation team must orchestrate a heart pounding escape fast through the twists and turns of the Basement before it is too late.

All I can say is this is spread over 2 levels and involvrs crawling through a tunnel. Ooh...

XD Theatre

Child (3-12) $8 | Adult (13 & above) $10

By integrating motion, special effects, and sound to the new films, the XD Theatre provides a 4-D immersive multi-sensory experience. On its reopening, SDC will be debuting two new thrilling films - Sky Hunt & Pinocchio.

The former takes the first person view of a thief in the midst of a heist with thrilling chases while Pinocchio is a more family-friendly animated film as you follow Pinocchio down slides and roller-coasters!

Floating Platform Walking Trail

FREE

In a bid to work towards becoming a “zero energy building” (a building which is able to produce enough energy on its own to run itself) in the upcoming years, SDC has installed a total of 2,325 solar panels spreading across 3 locations - the roof, the lake and also the sheltered walkway. These installations currently help to offset nearly half of the centre’s electrical consumption.

The lake houses the largest solar panel installation and it is here where visitors will be able to take a short walk on the floating platform walking trail, which has been installed around the solar panels on the lake. Visitors will be able to view the panels up close and understand the works of solar panels... as well as take some really wonderful selfies. 😅
