I think we can all agree that 2020 has been a strange year for most of us. There have been many disruptions in our lives - things that we took for granted pre-COVID like travelling, heading to cinemas, going out with a large group of friends, or even walking right into attractions or malls wihtout having to stop for temperature checks.
But that doesn't mean there are no new activities to enjoy in this COVID year - in fact, there are actually quite a number of new places that have sprouted up this year to discover together as a family - all 22 of them! And out of these 22, there are 12.5 attractions that can be enjoyed for FREE!

1. Adventure HQ at HomeTeamNS Khatib
Spanning a massive 2,800 square metres across four storeys, Adventure HQ is Singapore’s largest multi installation indoor hub complete with TEN installations that cater to thrill seekers and adrenaline junkies of all levels.
The totally-sheltered Adventure HQ truly has something for everyone, starting from a combination of high and low obstacles such as a ninja course, sensory adventure trails and various rock and boulder climbing walls. But more than that, it is also home to many FIRSTS in Singapore:
- Singapore’s first indoor Roll Glider at 233m long
- Singapore’s longest indoor slide at 14m long
- Singapore’s first 165m-long indoor artificial caving
- Singapore’s first-of-its-kind 15m Cloud Climb
- Singapore’s biggest two-tiered, 16-obstacle indoor challenge rope course

2. Changi Jurassic Mile
Parents with kids who are huge fans of dinosaurs, you might just want to take them on the newest Park Connector in Singapore... because they get to see life-sized dinosaur dioramas as they walk along the pathway.
Located beside Changi Airport Terminal 4's Carpark 4A, Jurassic Mile is part of the new Changi Airport Connector, which in turn is part of the larger Changi Coastal Park Connector Extension, and serves to connect Changi Airport to East Coast Park via a pathway where the public can walk, scoot or cycle to and fro.
There are a total of nine different species of dinosaurs on display and they are divided into the various groupings of Herbivores, Predatory, Flying and even Defensive dinosaurs. Changi Jurassic Mile itself is not that long; it's 1km so it is definitely do-able for young kids as well. As the entire stretch is a SHARED pathway, bicycles, skate scooters, blades, and legs are all welcome.
If you are driving, the most convenient way to start your visit is to park at Carpark 4A at Changi Airport Terminal 4. From there, you will be able to see the Changi Jurassic Mile starting point.
IMPORTANT POINT TO NOTE:

3. HydroDash
If your kids love splashing good fun, then they will go crazy at HydroDash, Singapore’s very first floating aqua park at Sentosa!
5. Sembawang Hot Spring Park
Sembawang Hot Spring Park re-opended early this year with new cascading hot spring pools, a hot spring water collection point, educational panels, a F&B outlet and even enhanced accessibility for wheelchair users! This is Singapore’s only natural hot spring and its water used to be bottled commercially by Fraser and Neave, under the brand name of Seletaris.
The park's centerpiece attraction is the Cascading Pool where water emerges at the top at 70°C and cascades down one tier at 60°C, then 45°C and finally at 40°C at the foot of the pool. Here, visitors can rest on the built-in seats at the edge of the 40°C pool and enjoy a foot bath.
If you prefer to soak your feet in hotter water, head to the Main Water Collection Point. This area allows for different sizes of water collection containers or buckets to be used. And specially for kids, there is also an Educational Zone which consists of an interactive water play feature which allows kids to learn more about the groundwater cycle, as well as play safely with the hot spring water.

6. Hampstead Wetlands Park
You may know of the fun aviation-themed outdoor playground at The Oval at Seletar Aerospace Park which not only has play areas for younger & older kids, it also has a life-sized Ludo gameboard. But did you know situated just beside it, is this oasis of tranquil nature?

7. Magical Shores at Siloso

Magical Shores is a multi-sensory experience that transforms Siloso beach into an interactive light and sound spectacle. Whirl around and see striking visual effects change on sand instantly, or catch nature’s enchanting song and dance that illuminates the island’s greenery after dark.
Billed as Singapore's first interactive beach light art attraction and spanning 400m across Siloso Beach, the showcase comes on in 15-minute cycles featuring vivid light, sound and must effects from 7.30pm to 10.30pm every night.
Comprising of four acts, the show will bring two islets to life, which will be bathed in lights, dreamy fog and tranquil music. The trees on the islets will also come "alive" as a relaxing light and symphony completr the magical experience. Everyone can interact with light art on the sands, which are inspired by diverse elements ranging from water flow to marine creatures. Expect this to be a hit with the kids!

9. Yunnan Garden
Where can you find a 5.6m-tall waterfall in Singapore? Granted it's man-made, but it still looks pretty spectacular, especially since it's part of a stormwater management system that collects and purifies rainwater.
The revamped Yunnan Garden at NTU opened earlier in Feb this year, and is huge - 12 football fields to be exact! Present-day features include enriched biodiversity, with over 1,000 new trees planted comprising of over 80 species, a 5.6-metre-tall waterfall, an open plaza for student events, Wi-Fi connectivity throughout the garden, and a boardwalk. The boardwalk connects the Garden to the newly expanded Nanyang Lake, which has outdoor fitness stations alongside it.

10. Keppel Marina East Desalination Plant Green Roof
The Keppel Marina East Desalination Plant (KMEDP) is Singapore's first large-scale plant able to treat both fresh water and seawater.

Located on the stretch of the Eastern Coastal Park Connector Network that bridges East Coast Park and Gardens by the Bay East, nearly 20,000 sq m of open green rooftop space is freed up for community activities and recreation. It is similar to Marina Barrage's rooftop space, but with a difference - Kite flying is not permitted, as the plant is along the flight path of Paya Lebar Airbase.

11. SINGAPO人: Discovering Chinese Singaporean Culture
SINGAPO人 is the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre’s inaugural permanent exhibition that spotlights and presents the many facets of our distinct Chinese Singaporean culture through five exhibition zones.
- Throughout the exhibition, children and parents alike will have fun tapping their RFID-enabled wristbands to answer questions and polls - all these responses will contribute to a customised report that offers insights to their exhibition experience, which they can print and bring home!
- In one of the zones, which is designed after the playgrounds that we grow up with, it will be a good place for parents to teach their children the origins behind some of distinctively Chinese Singaporean words we use everyday i.e. kopitiam is a fusion of Malay and Hokkien words!

12. Alice in Wonderland-themed Playground @ Dawson Vista
Inspired by the famed children's classic 'Alice in Wonderland', the WonderLand Playground lets kids immerse themselves in a magical wonderland, just like in the story! From swinging under the magical tree to embarking on a Mushroom Adventure, the playground has play equipment for both younger and older kids.
There are two masive play stuctures on each side of the playground. Named 'Mushroom Adventure', the larger one on the left allows kids to climb upwards via a multi-coloured and tiered structure. Once up, they have to traverse across a rope bridge to reach the other side of the structure and enjoy a quick descent down the orange tube slide!
The other structure on the right is where kids can truly pick out familiar characters and objects from the Alice in Wonderland tale. But more than that, it hides another climbing structure!

13. Alkaff Crescent Playgrounds
Nestled within the Alkaff Lakeview HDB flats cluster, not only are there FOUR different playgrounds, they are spread over THREE different floors! The playgrounds are connected by an over-arching theme - of water, wetlands, mountains and clouds. And when kids move from the first playground on the ground floor to the final one on the fourth floor, it is designed to give that sense of moving upwards together with nature.

15. Therapeutic Garden @ Telok Blangah Hill Park
The new therapeutic garden features several new elements that leverage Telok Blangah Hill Park’s natural forest setting. Some of these elements include fruit tree espaliers, planting of lesser-known forest species with therapeutic effects and a 40m long viewing deck which offers an unobstructed, mid-canopy view of the forest.

In order to create a seamless transition between the forest space and the therapeutic garden, the planting within the therapeutic garden was designed to mimic the natural forest structure. The therapeutic garden has also been designed to be wheelchair user-friendly and caters to a wide range of users including seniors and those with conditions such as ADHD and dementia.

18. FUTURE WORLD: Where Art Meets Science New Installations
Visitors to the highly popular FUTURE WORLD: Where Art Meets Science at ArtScience Museum can experience five exciting new digital artworks by teamLab, as part of the latest redevelopment of the exhibition.
Four new digital artworks by teamLab will be on display in the opening gallery of the exhibition, City in A Garden. They include the Southeast Asia debut of Proliferating Immense Life, A Whole Year per Year - a giant interactive mural of blooming flowers. The Sanctuary gallery will also feature a new version of Way of Birds, a stunning installation that explores the enigmatic movement of a flock of birds.

22. Once Upon A Time On The Orient Express

Once Upon A Time On The Orient Express offers visitors a chance to embark on a fascinating journey through the history of the Orient Express, reliving the experience of travellers who boarded the train more than 100 years ago. Spanning over 2,000sqm, the pop-up attraction will feature two original train carriages classified as National Treasures of France, and a 158-year-old locomotive shipped from France to Singapore, along with 300 heritage items such as uniforms, shields, a pullman car, affiches, Louis Vuitton original luggage, priceless porcelain and more.
The attraction will also feature an exclusive Orient Express shop, Orient Express road cafe, Orient Express restaurant and lounge and escape room experience!
