I am always a sucker for a good bit of festive cheer, especially when that centres around the Christmas markets in Europe. There's always something magical about them - the stalls, the food, the music, the activities and of course, the atmosphere that makes it all seem so Christmassy.
But there's no need to fly to Europe to experience that bit of Christmas market magic because this Christmas, Capitol Singapore and CHIJMES will be bringing it to you... right here in Singapore!
From 6 to 24 December 2019, revel in Christmas festivities at Capitol Singapore and CHIJMES, both sited in the vibrant downtown Civic District and merely a stone’s throw apart.
Capitol Singapore will be transforming into a festive wonderland, one of the largest European-inspired Christmas Markets in Singapore in fact and complete with a singing tree and skating rink!
CHIJMES, on the other hand, welcomes visitors to an Instagram Wonderland with festive art installations and laser projection shows featuring Christmas scenes!
So ready those cameras, rev up the festive spirit and bring the family down to Capitol Singapore and CHIJMES for that unparalleled Christmas experience. Here's what to expect:
CAPITOL SINGAPORE
Capitol ● Kempinski Christmas Market

Indulge in the rich festive spirit and cheer at first European-themed Christmas Market at Capitol Singapore’s Outdoor Plaza, which will be transformed into the festive Capitol ● Kempinski Christmas Market.
Because there's nothing quite like Christmas shopping, there will be more than 50 festive booths selling Christmas goodies like panetonne, log cakes, stollen, chilled mulled wine and more, including 20 booths by The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore.
Here's your chance to shop for your holiday gifts or Christmas-themed souvenirs at the array of fashion and lifestyle booths, with items such as
jewellery, accessories and decorative ornaments.

Centre to the Christmas market will be the eight-metre tall giant Capitol ● Kempinski Singing Tree, the first-ever at Capitol Singapore! And by singing tree, I mean it comprises of REAL people singing from the tree... not simply playing Christmas carols through the loudspeaker non-stop.
The Christmas tree will be brought to life by the voices of over 30 carollers, who will be singing live carols for visitors on schedule. There's nothing quite like ramping up the festive mood with Christmas tunes sung live if you ask me!
Capitol ● Kempinski Skating Rink

Time: 11.30am - 9.30pm daily (Opens on 6 Dec from 8pm onwards)

Now this will be a HIT with the kids! Direct from Switzerland, kids (and adults) can enjoy skating fun at this 1,700 square feet synthetic ice-rink.
Admission Fee: $6* per half an hour session OR spend a minimum of $50 (maximum 3 same- day combined receipts) in Capitol Singapore and/or CHIJMES for a complimentary half an hour session.
*Admission fee does not include the rental of skating shoes, skating aids, helmet, knee/elbow guards and socks.
Rental Rates:
Skating Shoes: $6/person/entry
Skating Aid: $6 per half an hour
Safety helmet, knee & elbow guard: FREE
Socks are available for purchase at $2 per pair.

What's Christmas without Santa, no? Head to the traditional log house where you can meet Santa Claus and snag a photo* with him. Oh and here's a TIP: Santa will be dishing out surprise gifts to lucky visitors so be sure keep an eye out for him!

Okay, so we don't have Winter but that won't stop us from getting into the Christmas mood, especially with an outdoor snowfall at Capitol Singapore’s Outdoor Plaza!
Every evening, catch the snow fall at three different hours for the perfect winter Insta-moment when you visit. There will also be game booths for the young and young at heart so do share your best captures at Capitol Singapore using the hashtag #TheSeasonofJoyCapitolSG as well!
CHIJMES

Laser Projection Show

Now this is something new! Specially for this Christmas, get to enjoy a Laser Projection Show that will display festive animations on the façade of the historic CHIJMES Hall.
Have your breath taken away by scenes of Christmas from the olden days where chapels and traditional wooden houses are aplenty, decorated by Santa’s helper elves for the holidays. If you look closely, you will even spot Santa waving at you from the balcony!
Other scenes include that of a snowy kingdom of the Ice Princess complete with her snow castle. She will dance and sing along with animals from the nearby forest to celebrate her icy Christmas.
TIP: Look out for QR codes that will be shown amidst the shows and scan them for a chance to redeem gifts from CHIJMES!
