I have driven past this hotel many times but frankly, it has never crossed my mind to bring the family there for a staycation. The hotel in question?
Furama RiverFront.
Located along Havelock Road and between vibrant Chinatown and Orchard Road, Furama RiverFront has recently upped the ante in providing more kid-friendly facilities for families... and it does not get any bigger than kid-themed hotel rooms!
But more on that in a bit, I promise. Because for starters, the hotel has also revamped its tenant mix by saying goodbye to its seedy nightclub tenants. In their places are a variety of shops and even a childcare centre!
But as we found out, Furama RiverFront has a lot more to offer so here are 5 kid-friendly things that you never knew about the hotel:
#1 - PAWS Playroom
Located at Level 1, PAWS Playroom is perfect for kids aged 11 years and below. The colourful room is home to LEGO bricks, building blocks and other wooden toys. Besides enjoying cartoon screenings, the kiddos can also practice their drawing skills on the black or white boards. Oh, and did I mention they can jump themselves silly on the trampoline too???
The Square @ Furama is the hotel's flagship buffet restaurant which serves up a slew of international culinary gems that bring out the best flavours of the East and the West in a tantalising buffet spread.
And this is no token space for kids. The Tykes @ The Square play area is pretty huge and is filled with interesting and fun activities such as cartoon video screenings, activity sheets and free-play toys.
There is even a mini slide to work away those calories. Heh.
Suffice to say, the monkies made themselves at home at the play area while the wifey and I indulged in a relaxing buffet meal.
See what I mean?
Now this is the real biggie.
Kid-themed rooms are always a huge hit with families with young kids and at Furama RiverFront, some rooms have been refurbished with whimsical themes. Besides the above Pirate theme, there are two other themes to choose from - either go deep sea-diving with marine animals in the Underwater World-themed room...
We stayed in the Pirate-themed room and the monkies were blown away by the colourful nature of the room!
Notice how the bunk bed designs in each of the different rooms are in accordance to the various themes?
And it sure helped that the room is completely fitted out with child-friendly furniture!
The room comes with a bunk bed (single on top and queen below) and a pull-out bed, which can fit 2 adults and 2 children comfortably. Ale shared the queen-sized bed with the wifey and me so it was no issue.
But perhaps, the most FUN bit of the room for the monkies has got to be this one thing found in the photo below. Can you spot it?
Yes, THIS.
Each kid-themed room also comes with an XBOX game console, where games can be loaned from the reception lobby.
Of course, no staycation is complete without water play at the pool and Furama RiverFront's swimming pool is large enough to guarantee splashes of fun.
But that was not what delighted the monkies. This did the job.
An outdoor inflatable water bouncy castle located a few steps away from the main swimming pool!
I guess there isn't any need for me to say just how much the monkies enjoyed it then.
#5 - Kids Stay & Eat for FREE
At Furama RiverFront, children enjoy privileges from stay to dine.
Kids below 12 years of age stay for free using existing bedding. Each child (below 12 years of age) also gets to enjoy a complimentary meal with each adult ala carte (main course) or buffet ordered. If the parents order a main course, junior can select a dish from the specially-crafted kid’s menu. If indulging in the buffet is preferred instead, the kids can also enjoy the buffet for free!
Furama RiverFront may not be the top-most choice when it comes to a staycation with the family but it definitely surprised me with its family-friendly offerings... and the monkies too, because which kid can say no to a colourful kid-themed room (and an XBOX)?

Wow! I think my 2 toddler boys would love to be in the Purate theme room! Cos they love to watch Jake and the neverlabd pirates caetoon on nick jr. Furthermore, they have not been on a staycation for a long time as mummy always has to take care of the boys at home (SAHM) and papa is always working. I hope to win this staycation giveaway for my daughters, Charyn and Charlyn. It has been really difficult for us living apart for almost 4 years, after i got divorced with my ex-husband. Due to circumstances I am not able to take them with me till next year, when my new place is ready.

Staycations an absolutely indulgence and fun for kids!
Firstly, the experience of being in the pirate theme room would get my kids immerse in being pirates for the stay and understanding more about the characters.
Secondly, I have not been to Furama hotel and as my hubby said he has worked there when he was a teen, I would like him to invite him to go back there and see the changes after so many years.
It's a reminiscing experience and indulgence family fun!

I believe my two sons' imagination will run wild if we get to stay in the Pirate-themed room. They will probably go up to the top deck of the bunk bed; one boy pretending to be sailing the ship ,while the other boy with one hand holding a telescope and other hand with a "Legoland" map trying to figure out where's the treasure. Whahaha.... that's what they used to do.... Hope to bring smile! :)
