When pumpkins, witches, and skeletons start making their scheduled appearances at this time of the year, you know that Halloween is round the corner once more! But Halloween need not be about scares for the kids... since kids are usually given the freedom to collect unlimited amounts of sweets!
So if you are looking for somewhere fun to bring your kids this Halloween, complete with more treats than tricks, look no further than S.E.A. Aquarium's Spooky Seas.
Spooky Seas returns again this year and this time, it is the turn of the pirates where the 'Pirates Ahoy!' edition will guarantee a treasure trove of treats and discoveries down in the sea. Kids will be ableto unveil the chilling truths about marine animals, use their wits to bag some treats, and even watch pumpkins turn into lanterns under the sea!
Before entering the S.E.A. Aquarium proper, remember to pick up your FREE Spooky Seas Trail booklet and paper bag (for sweets, what else!) from the pirate ship mock-up. The booklet will task the little pirate wannabes to visit 5 stations within the Aquarium to unlock secret treats!
In keeping with the spooky theme, the entire Aquarium has been decked out in Halloween-themed decorations, from skeletons bumming around at the bottom of the sea to special props in the huge tanks with bones and pumpkins.
Yes, even tombstones too.
Considering this is a treasure hunt for kids - although I have to say I spotted a few young adults having a go at it too! - the theme revolves around treats (also known as sweets) that are hidden in a treasure chest within a haunted shipwreck.
To unlock these secret treats, kids have to embark on the trail and complete a task at each of the five stations - Fishy Graveyard, Mad Scientist’s Lab, Pumpkin Patch, Vampire’s Lair and Potion Parlour!
And the monkies did just that.
At the first station, the monkies learnt to identify the various skeletal jaw remains of underwater creatures - creatures that had been mercilessly hunted down by humans. And their reward? Loads of sweet treats from a... erm, not-so-sweet and grim station master.
Don't worry, the station master was not scary at all. In fact, he was swamped with hordes of kids... with them eyeing the wheelbarrow of sweets behind him I'm sure!
The second station at Mad Scientist's Lab had the monkies examining bottles of specimens of different sea creatures.
The great thing about the Sea Trail is it allowed the kids to learn more about some lesser-known sea creatures. Well actually, even I found the facts to be fascinating as well!
Doodle a scary or funny face on the pumpkin booklet and sweets were earned. Just like that.
No wonder Ale asked if she could draw on more than one booklet!
We visited the Vampire’s Lair next where the monkies found out the existence of some really creepy octopuses and slimy worms deep in the ocean.
The final station had the monkies dip their hands into black boxes and guess the mystery items lurking inside them.
Nothing too creepy if you must know... but trust Ayd to ham it up for the camera all the same.
A scroll awaited the kiddos after the completion of all 5 stations but more importantly though, they were ecstatic with their bounty of free candy!
