Serving as a prelude to this year’s FORMULA 1 SINGAPORE AIRLINES SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX, the Singapore Airlines Light Up The Night Carnival returns this year to the F1 Pit Building as a two-day event over the 22-23 August 2015 weekend. And did I mention it is FREE entry for all???
And yes, the first day has already passed... which means tomorrow is absolutely the last day to soak in all the activities and festivities at the Carnival! We were down on the first day and the monkies evidently enjoyed their time at the Carnival, so here are THE highlights that will appeal to kids if you are planning to head down tomorrow.
LEVEL ONE
Go-Karting
Experience the thrills of go-kart racing on the Marina Bay Street Circuit at a nominal fee of $5 where proceeds will go to the Community Chest!
Do note that participants must be of a minimum height of 1.5m and properly attired with covered shoes.
So yes, the monkies could only watch the go-karts zip past and around the circuit. But at least they made do with the next activity.
Race Simulators
Participants will be able to take the driver’s seat in the Singapore GP simulators and attempt to clock in their best lap time on Singapore GP simulators.
Looking at how intensely Ash was concentrating on his race, I think it is safe to say he took the challenge rather seriously!
Pit Stop Challenge
Ever wondered the work that a pit crew does during an F1 race? At the carnival, parents and kids can execute a pit stop together and see how fast they can change a tyre on an F1 car.
We were given a crash course on how to screw on/off the nut and change the tyre - which by the way, is really heavy! If you have really young kids, it's more advisable to change the front tyre as it is lighter and easier to accomplish.
Well, we did it eventually... even though it was not quite the 3-second standard that the professional pit crew boasts.
Stunt Driving Performances
Witness first-hand some of the most exhilarating acts in stunt driving at the following times: 3pm, 5pm and 7pm.
Singapore GP Live Art Showcase
Catch local artists in action as they build and design livery of life-sized Formula One cars.
Kids can also try their hands at batik painting, or take home their very own limited-edition miniature Formula One car.
Stroll among the Pit Garages
SIA Seats Display
Tired after all the walking? Experience the comfort of the Singapore Airlines Seats in Economy, Business Class and First Class at the carnival. And the monkies sure know how to choose the good stuff! Lol.
Should you wish have a respite from the heat, head up to LEVEL TWO where MORE kid-friendly activities await!
Life-sized Board Game
Families can play together on a life-sized board game of Planes & Runways, a twist on the classic Snakes and Ladders.
Wii Console Games
I suppose this needs no introduction.
Remote Control Car
Arguably the fave activity of the lot among the kids at the carnival, kids can to have a go at remote control car racing and compete against up to 5 other racers.
The first car to cross the finish line after a number of laps wins and I was fortunate enough to capture Ash's blue racing car winning moment! No prizes though, just plain bragging rights.
Movie Screenings
Plenty of movies to keep the little ones entertained so here's a dandy guide of the movies and their timings in case you need some moments of peace. Heh.
Colouring Area
Yet another self-explanatory activity, which is always great for younger kids.
Face Painting
Somehow, face painting is too a perennial favourite at carnivals - as Ale will attest to.
Photo Opportunities
Families will be able to pose for photos with Madame Tussauds wax figures of Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel for free!
Or try hoisting up the replica of the 2015 FORMULA 1 SINGAPORE AIRLINES SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX winner’s trophy. And yes, it is pretty heavy!
Paper Plane Challenge
The Paper Plane Challenge Finals will be taking place from 2pm onwards on Sunday so be sure to catch the action as the finalists engage in a fly-off against each other to win the titles of “Greatest Distance” and “Fastest Paper Plane”.
Or kids can also fold their own paper planes and join in the fun at the Public Runway too!
Just use the paper provided to fold your own paper planes and launch them at the runway to see how far they fly.
If you are looking to purchase specially-designed SIA F1 merchandise, they will be available at the Carnival. In addition, F1 fans will be able to purchase tickets for the 2015 FORMULA 1 SINGAPORE AIRLINES SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX at exclusive rates, as well as race merchandise at the Carnival!
Oh, and remember to pick up your activity card at the various activity stations. Collect any 3 stamps (or more) from the stations mentioned above to participate in a Lucky Draw where a pair of Pit Grandstand tickets (worth more than $2,500) and a pair of Premier Walkabout tickets (worth more than $1,000) await! You can also use the stamps to redeem giveaways.

The activities are all free to enjoy, except for the Go-kart.
