Holey Smokes, Kids Eat & Bounce Free at Smokey's BBQ!

Media Invite

Who wants to sleep in on Sundays? Well, I do... in theory that is. Because if you have monkies like mine - who do not share the same affinity with the bed like I do come Sunday mornings - sleeping in is one tall order.

Unless there is a hearty brunch with the family waiting for me of course. And a hearty brunch doesn't come better than at Smokey's BBQ, an all-American Smokehouse & Grill famed for its brand of authentic American barbeque.

Tucked away at tranquil Sunset Way, which is home to residential blocks as well as a cluster of restaurants, this is Smokey's BBQ's second outlet in Singapore with the first being at Joo Chiat. I have not been to the one at Joo Chiat but I was told that the second outlet is bigger and airier - always a good thing when it comes to bringing kids along for meals!

Owned and operated by true-blue Americans, Smokey's BBQ stays true to the authentic American BBQ tradition by making sure what they serve here is as good as or better than what they would get back home in the States.

As a parent though, my personal criteria when it comes to gauging how awesome an eatery is for families is its Kids Menu. And even though the menu for kids may only boast 3 items - Chicken Nuggets ($8), Burger Sliders (Pork, Chicken or Salmon) ($8) and Baby Back Ribs ($10) - I was left mightily impressed with the ones the monkies had.

Ale and Ayd had the Chicken and Pork burger sliders, and I was surprised that the mini burgers actually came with thick chunks of meat and NOT processed patties!

My suggestion is to go for the chicken rather than the pork as the latter tasted a tad bland and dry. The chicken burgers on the other hand were flavourful and moist. And speaking of flavourful, one dish that got all of us raving was the Buffalo Wings ($12 for 6 pieces)!

Jumbo chicken wings marinated, fried and tossed in Smokey's classic Buffalo wing sauce, they were deep-fried to an delectable crispiness. And the homemade blue cheese dressing that came with it was so good that we ended up dipping almost everything inside it!

Ash went for the Grandpa Joe's Backyard Burger ($22), which was an old-fashioned-styled burger with a huge thick patty and topped with BBQ sauce and cheddar cheese.

Was it good? You betcha.

And the cherry on top of it all? THIS.

Yes, bouncy castle madness descend upon Smokey's BBQ at Sunset Way every Saturday and Sunday between 11:30am and 7pm

We were there 2 Sundays ago, during the epic Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao fight of the century so the bouncy castle was not in operation due to the huge crowd gathered at the eatery.

But anyway, there was still the food to keep us satisfied and the next 2 signature dishes were enough to get all of us drooling.

Marinated in Gordon Biersch Maibock (a dark roasted, caramelized beer), the US Prime Beef Brisket ($27) is smoked and slow roasted for over 20 hours! And the taste was... simply put, delicious. The meat was fork tender with the right bits of fat, and had a good balance of seasoning with a smokey flavour that complemented the meaty taste.

Of course, the star of Smokey's BBQ was undoubtedly its St. Louis Pork Spare Ribs ($27 for 1/3 slab).

Seasoned with homemade rub and smoked with hickory and mesquite wood to perfection, the meat is juicy,  superbly tender and literally falls off from the bone.

The thing about Smokey’s  is it remains faithful to its authentic American BBQ roots by using the traditional American method of smoking wooden chips to smoke and slow roast its selections at very low temperatures for up to 20 hours, resulting in an unique smoked flavor. All its smokers are custom-built, with the wood chips imported directly from the US and all of its BBQ sauces, dressings, rubs, sides and seasonings made in-house.

And if you are a beer lover, you will be overjoyed to know that Smokey’s also prides itself on stocking one of best selections of craft beers in Singapore, many of which are imported directly from small US craft breweries. Perfect for accompanying that lazy Sunday brunch while the kids go crazy at the bouncy castle!

Smokey's BBQ's food sure does not disappoint in terms of quality as well as quantity. I reckon it is great for meet-ups with friends with kids since the servings are huge... and especially during weekends, the kids can mind their own business at the bouncy castle while the adults dine and catch-up in peace.

P.S. Need another great reason to bring along the kiddos? One child eats FREE with any purchase of an adult main course! *Valid only for children aged 10 and below, and from 11:30am to 3pm.

Wow.. Is this a sponsored post? Otherwise, wouldn't it cost almost a $100 for a family of 5. Is this an average price for a meal in Singapore?

Hi Anon,

It was a media tasting invite, which I have included in the first sentence of my blog post.

The 1/3 baby back ribs was $27, burger was $22 while the beef brisket was $27. Frankly, the ribs was more than enough for 2 persons to share.

So for a family of 5, the burger and ribs would have suffice. On top of these, 2 kids meals would be FREE too since 2 main courses were ordered.

The total cost would therefore will slightly less than $60. So I'm afraid that your initial estimate of $100 was grossly misguided.

Thanks for dropping by!
