One's birthday celebration certainly doesn't get any better than this. Especially when my age is getting closer to that magical number 40, which doesn't make uplifting news. So it was all thanks to Montigo Resorts Nongsa who had so graciously put us up in one of their absolutely gorgeous villas - I'll get to that in a bit - on my birthday which had every single monkie singing its praises up til today!
That's TILO, the chick Prince mascot for Montigo Resorts Nongsa by the way. Probably the most stylishly dressed chick prince on this planet, he led the staff at the resort in giving us a truly royal welcome at the lobby.
Situated at just a 40-minute ferry ride away from Singapore's Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal, Montigo Resorts Nongsa, is Batam’s first 5-star all-villa resort. Return land transfers are provided complimentary by the resort and it is only a 5-minute car ride away from the Nongsapura Ferry Terminal.
There are a total of 88 villas dotting the coastal shoreline with all offering unobstructed magnificent views of the South China Sea. When I first caught a glimpse of the villas from the resort lobby, the first thing thing that struck me was the contemporary and minimalistic clean lines of the villa architecture.
If the villa's interior was anything like its stunning exterior, then every single one of us couldn't wait to get over with check-in procedures and head down to our own villa.
And my word, we fell in love with the villa instantaneously.
Not only did our villa come with three floors of living space, the highlight for the monkies (and the wifey & me) had got to be our own private kick-ass infinity pool - right outside the living room!
No prizes for guessing which part of the villa the monkies wanted to indulge in right away then.
Ayd was probably too distracted by the inviting cool water to look at the camera...
... while Ale was simply too taken in by the breathtaking sea view from our villa.
There are a total of 4 different types of villas at Montigo - Hilltop Villas, Hillside Villas, Spa Villas and Beachfront Villas. All come with their own private pools, except for the Beachfront Villas. The Spa Villas are situated the closest to the sea while the Hilltop and Hillside Villas are located further back inland.
Ours was the Spa Villa and besides its close proximity to the sea, it contained something extra special... which the monkies were bent on being the first ones to find out.
After descending a flight of bamboo steps, we had our very own chillax area in the form of a rustic pavilion!
Pure bliss, as what the monkies will tell you.
Obviously all 3 of them were eyeing to plunge straight into the pool immediately but there was still the small matter of checking out the rest of our 3-storey villa first.
The living room has a kitchenette as well, which comes stocked with crockery and cutlery.
Even the mini-bar is well stocked up with cold drinks, and all of them (including the snacks) are complimentary!
Oh, and did I mention all villas are loaded up with a Wii Console as well?
Time to explore Level 2 but before that, can I just say that I love the design of the front facade of the villa? The entire 3-storey building has automated blinds covering the entire front which at the push of a button, one can let natural light stream into the villa. Very very nice touch.
Other than the plunge pool, this open-air bathroom must have ranked second on the monkies' favourite places in the villa... thanks to its oversized tub.
The other bedroom - which the 2 boys slept in - came with twin beds and an en-suite bathroom as well.
But the most breathtaking of the lot has got to be Level 3, where the sky terrace beckoned.
Gorgeous, stunning, beautiful. No matter which description you use, it will be absolutely apt. Come to think of it, there isn't an need for any as these photos will suffice.
And massive is also one word to describe Montigo Resorts' compounds so if you are feeling lazy like us (all is forgiven since we are on holiday, no?) then there is the luxury of calling for a buggy to send us to our destination.
There are 2 main pools in Montigo - one being right on the doorstep of Tiigo, an adults-only bar and beach club designated for adults to relax in a child-free zone within a child-friendly resort.
Together with its poolside enclaves with Cabanas, I reckon this would be one heck of a happening place come sunset.
The other pool area is located beside TADD'S, an all-day dining restaurant, and this one is more kids-friendly as it is shallower and has deck chairs around in the water for parents to laze on while keeping an eye on their young-lings.
Truth be told, if anyone had told me such an idyllic place existed on Batam before this, I would have scoffed at him/her. But I am happy to be proven wrong.
Of course, the BIG thing for the kids has got to be the huge 2-storey OLO Kid's Club.
The Kid's Club is packed with so much fun activities that I will have to document it in Part 2 of our Montigo escapade. Because for now with the sun setting, it was time to head back to our villa to make good on our promise to let the monkies go wild in the plunge pool.
The sunset was awe-inspiring, especially the view from our sky terrace. Pity my photo just doesn't do justice to it.
Oh, and look what we spotted in the distance???
That's the skyline of Singapore! Can you make out the MBS buildings? |
As the wifey and I admired the sunset, the monkies were keeping themselves busy.
And what's even better than taking a dip in your own private pool? Having an in-villa BBQ while swimming, that's what!
Other than the restuarants, guests can opt to indulge in a private barbeque party in the comfort of their own villa. The barbeque can be set up on the sky terrace but we opted to have it at the poolside since we would be able to enjoy our food and keep an eye on the monkies in the pool at the same time.
And the best part? We didn't even had to work up a sweat to barbecue the food. A chef will be on hand to set-up the grill, cook the food and even clear up after that!
We were provided with the Montigo Private Surf and Turf, which had filling portions of snapper fillet, king prawn, cumi cumi, chicken, beef, lamb chop grilled vegetables and potatoes. Pure yumz!
The monkies had their pick of food from the Kids Menu, with the usual suspects like sandwich, hot dog, spaghetti and nuggets.
The swimming must have enhanced their appetite because all three walloped their dinner in record time!
Oh and if WIFI access is a matter of life and death to you, you will be overjoyed to know that there is FREE WIFI access throughout the ENTIRE resort! Definitely makes that surfing on your iPad on the sky terrace a little more shiok... and windy with a fantastic night view to boot!
As for Ale, she was truly contented with her TILO soft toy which has been keeping her company in bed ever since.
The boys, on the other hand, milked the Wii Console for all it's worth, watched TV in bed, slept late... precisely what a relaxing holiday should be.
But that didn't mark the end of all the fun. For them, and for the wifey and I. In fact, we had the awesome Kid's Club to thank as the wifey and I had the opportunity to get rid of them for 2 hours as we got to indulge in some rejuvenating massage. Just the 2 of us.

Hi, may I know which villa u stayed?(the villa number).
Hear a lot of bad reviews on this resort, like ants on bed, dirty bathtub, dirty bedsheets, stained sofas & lots more.
Whats your review?
Hi Anon,
We stayed at Villa 101. Our experience was top-notch with everything being wonderful. In fact, my kids are already clamouring to go back, as seen in Part 2 of my review: http://www.cheekiemonkie.net/2013/10/heaven-is-place-on-earth-montigo_7.html

cham, I have 5 adult and 2 kids and 1 infant leh...means need 2 unit?
Hi Ger,
From what I know, yes 5 pax includes kids. Maybe you could email them to enquire further? Hope it helps!
Hi,
Can I check do we need to pay for the OLO kids clubs?
Oh btw, as I glance thru ur blog, then realized that my elder boy is your elder boy's classmate in Gracehouse Kindergarten!
Haha no wonder i find his uniform so familiar. Really a small world ya!
Hi Piggi,
What a small world indeed! :)
The OLO Kids Club's facilities are free for kids, but they must be accompanied by an adult.
But you can sign your kids up for the full-day or half-day programmes (chargeable) where the OLO Kid’s Club team will look after the kids during the programme too. More details in my Part 2 post: http://www.cheekiemonkie.net/2013/10/heaven-is-place-on-earth-montigo_7.html
Hope it helps! :)
