Product Review
(Daddy reviews)
As much as technology has improved leaps and bounds since the eighties, I do still feel a tinge of nostalgia when it comes to the old Polaroid cameras of yesteryear. Because quite frankly, there is nothing like taking photos with a camera and having a printed copy in my hand almost instantly.
Well, LG must have heard my inner voice crying out to them.
The LG Pocket Photo Printer, as its name implies, is a nifty little device that allows you to print pictures wirelessly from your camera or phone. I got the Pocket Photo Printer back in May and admittedly, the monkies and I had so much fun with it that I only got around to doing up the review now. Okay, so procrastination had a hand in it too.
Everything about this printer oozes coolness but in order to make the cool stuff happen, you will first have to download the LG Pocket Photo app (available for both Android or iOS devices).
Once installed, you can then connect your smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth or NFC (Near-Field Communication) to the Pocket Photo Printer. No cables needed; just select the photo you want to print, place the phone on the printer and it will communicate wirelessly to churn out a 2×3 inch print of your photo.
The app can also take photos using the phone's camera, edit pictures, and if you so desire, also generate QR codes to print out.
But the amazing thing about the Pocket Photo Printer is that it uses absolutely NO ink at all!
To print photos, the device uses Zink, or Zero ink, paper technology. Load the printer with paper from Zink, a company that creates this form of special paper. During printing, the printer heats up the dye embedded inside the paper, causing it to change colors accordingly.
What I loved the most about the printer was the ease and speed it took to print out a photo - all 45 seconds of it. On hindsight, I should have known better but once I shared the printer with the 2 boys, my reign over it was as good as over.
And this is the end result.
If you are looking for a printer to cough up photos to hang up on your home wall, then do stay away from this device. But if you looking for a portable device to print out photos for scrapbooking, or just simply making instant memories during a party, the LG Pocket Photo Printer can be one heck of a crowd pleaser.
The LG Pocket Photo Printer (Model PD221) is retailing in Singapore for S$249.
A packet of Zink Media Photo Paper (3 x 10 sheets) is retailing for S$18.
