100 Holiday Activities for Kids (Part 3)

(#51 to #75)

See Part 1 HERE and Part 2 HERE.

With the School Holidays officially starting tomorrow, I guess Daddy better complete his 100 Holiday Activities List SOON! :D

And so, here comes Part 3.

Besides the annual Christmas Light-up at Orchard, the Marina Bay Christmas Light-up promises to provide many unforgettable evenings of enchantment from 19 Nov 2011 to 2 Jan 2012. And with it, the MARINA BAY area also offers a slew of activities for the whole family.

51. Soak in the festive atmosphere at The Fullerton Hotel.

- Candlelight Procession
On 25 Nov at 7.30pm, see the unusual light-up of The Fullerton Hotel's Christmas Tree in the presence of a handbell choir with the hotel's staff members candles in a procession in the lobby. And if that's not enough to entice you, how about complimentary wine, hot chocolate & Christmas cookies to pile on the festive spirit? :D

- 3D Show using the Hotel's facade
On 30 Nov at 8pm, The Fullerton Hotel's facade will be brought to life through the use of 3D animation techniques. Think koi fishes swimming and fireflies dancing against the backdrop of the Hotel's architecture. We think it'll be a magical evening!

52. Watch the Toys Come Alive at the Singapore Flyer.

From now til 1 Jan 2012, the Singapore Flyer transforms into a fantasy Toyland this Christmas, complete with toy soldiers, teddy bears & gingerbread men. Look out for a giant Christmas Snow Globe too! On weekends, kids receive a Fun Pack and a Goodies Hamper, as well as free admission to the Snow Globe with every full-priced child ticket purchased.

53. Go balloon-ga-ga at the Balloon Wonderland.

Be dazzled by the enormous balloon sculptures in the form of sea creatures like octopus, sea-horse, puffer fish put up by the People's Association balloon sculpting interest groups.

Date: 26 Nov 2011
Time: 7pm to 9.30pm
Venue: Marina Bay Waterfront Promenade
FREE event

54. Carolling & Float Display at Marina Square

On 23 & 24 Dec in the evening, get high on the festive spirits by catching a 1,500-strong choir performance as they perform near the steps of Marina Square. Also, beautifully decorated floats will be on display to complete that perfect Christmas evening.

For the kids who are getting all restless at home, there are always the parks and outdoor playgrounds for them to run amok. But if the weather isn't cooperative, there are still the INDOOR PLAYGROUNDS for them to expend their pent-up energy.

55. Daddy was highly tempted to list EACH indoor playground as one holiday activity, but I told him no cheating. Hee. And so, here are the Indoor Playgrounds around Singapore and our experiences at most of them:

- Amazonia (http://cheekiemonkie.blogspot.com/2011/09/amazonia-adventure.html)
- Polliwogs (http://cheekiemonkie.blogspot.com/2009/08/golly-wolly-its-polliwogs.html)
- Fidgets (http://cheekiemonkie.blogspot.com/2011/08/king-di-di-for-day.html)
- Kidz Amaze (http://cheekiemonkie.blogspot.com/2011/10/kidz-amaze-playtime.html)
- Atlantis (http://cheekiemonkie.blogspot.com/2008/10/another-indoor-playground.html)
- Go-Go Bambini
- eXplorerkid (Downtown East & AMK Hub)
- Peek-a-boo
- Little O'Zone (Orchid Country Club) (http://cheekiemonkie.blogspot.com/2009/07/our-ozone.html)
- Frisk 'n' Romp Kids Playclub

56. Play with lots & lots & lots of toys at The Toy Rental Club.

Located in a warehouse at Pasir Panjang, this place primarily rents out all kinds of toys - from playmats to bulky playsets & toy vehicles - but for a small admission charge, kids can play with all the toys there while the adults sit down and sip a cup of coffee.

We were there quite a few years back: http://cheekiemonkie.blogspot.com/2008/06/we-wanna-play-this-this-and-this-and.html. Click here: http://www.toyrentalclub.com/ for more information.

Without a doubt, we would all need to refuel after burning so much energy. And so, these KIDS-FRIENDLY RESTAURANTS will probably rank as a kids' activity by itself with the inclusion of their own play-areas. Perfect for the parents to slowly enjoy their food, without having to entertain their kids throughout meal time.

57. Seb's Bistro & The Playhouse @ Rochester

Kids get their own table and seating, pick their food from their own menu, jump high on a trampoline while waiting for the food to arrive and go all crazy in an indoor playhouse after meals. What's not to like?

Read more of our dining experience here: http://cheekiemonkie.blogspot.com/2011/10/sebs-bistro-playhouse-rochester.html

58. The Tanglin Tree

Located at in the Friven & Co. Building at 56 Tanglin Road, there is a Tree House, Flying Fox, sand and more sand to keep all kids happy (& sweaty).

We monkies loved this place when we were there the last time - http://cheekiemonkie.blogspot.com/2010/08/i-get-knocked-down-but-i-get-up-again.html!

59. Sakae Sushi at Tradehub 21

While sushi is always a fave with kids (at least to us monkies, it is!!!), the Sakae Sushi at Tradehub 21 (28 Boon Lay Way) has a kids' play-area outside the restaurant, complete with a playhouse and ball pit area.

60. Poison Ivy Bistro at Bollywood Veggies

We HEART Poison Ivy Bistro - partly because of the delicious food, but also because the nice min-play area just outside of the bistro.

And after our meal, we can take a stroll in the wonderful Bollywood Veggies' wild sanctuary. In fact, it is a must-go place if you are visiting farms in the Kranji Countryside - http://cheekiemonkie.blogspot.com/2011/10/kranji-farms-day-out.html

61. Jin Shin Jung Korean BBQ Restaurant

Located at YESS Centre at 27 West Coast Highway, savour authentic Korean BBQ fare while the kids go all-crazy at the indoor play-area!

62. Bottle Tree Park (Yishun)

The Bottle Tree Village Seafood Restaurant used to be located in a nice ulu area in Sembawang, but it has since relocated to the Bottle Tree Park in Yishun while the old premise is converted to Sembawang Eating House SEafood Restaurant (Halal).

Housing a Seafood Restaurant, Bar & Bistro and a Japanese Dining restaurant, the Bottle Tree Park also offers many child-related activities like longkang fishing, remote-controlled car racing and swan paddling. And if all else fails, there is always the perennial fave - the playground.

For more information, please click here: http://www.bottletree.com.sg/

63. SOL Playground Cafe

Located at Turf City, this cafe comes with both an outdoor playground as well as a mini indoor playground for the kids to while away the time while the parents are buys eating and catching-up with friends.

And during lunch time on weekends, there are balloon sculpturing and face painting sessions as well! Want to know more? Click here: http://cheekiemonkie.blogspot.com/2008/02/lion-in-playground-cafe.html then!

64. Saddle Cafe at Bt Timah Saddle Club

Indulge in a hearty brunch at the cafe, and also a view of horses going about their daily exercises.

For us monkies, the part that we most looked forward to was after our meal - where we got the chance to get close to the horses and observe them as they got fed and groomed. Read more here: http://cheekiemonkie.blogspot.com/2009/01/saddle-up.html

65. Picotin at Horsecity

Located just beside Turf City, this restaurant is the perfect place for yet again a hearty brunch!

And while you are there, the kids will have lots of things for them to do as well. Which brings me to my next Kids Activity point...

66. Horsecity

Kids will be able to ride ponies, feed donkeys, enjoy arts & craft work, cuddle cute rabbits and gawk at a marine life aquarium. All at Horsecity.

Details of activities:

Pony Riding (Rides with handler for 2 years & above)
Sat & Sun (10am-12pm & 1pm-7pm): $10 per ride
Donkey Feeding
Sat & Sun (10am-7pm)
Horsegarden - Art & Craft, Outdoor Rabbit Park & Indoor Marine Life Aquarium
(http://www.jardinierexp.com/)

Our experience: http://cheekiemonkie.blogspot.com/2008/09/gallop-away.html

Activities don't have to be confined to Singapore, as we could take a short holiday overseas too! Perhaps it may be a tad to late to plan for a long overseas trip, but these SHORT HOLIDAY TRIPS are pretty doable and fuss-free!

67. Austin Hills, Johor Bahru

If there's one thing good about this place, it's that the rooms are HUGE!

The golf resort is only a 15-20 minutes drive away from the Woodlands Checkpoint, and is near to shopping malls like Tesco & Jusco Tebrau.

Read more of our adventures here: http://cheekiemonkie.blogspot.com/search/label/Austin%20Hills%20JB

68. Pulai Springs Resort, Pulai, Johor

Also good for a 1 night recharge, the Pulai Springs Resort has 2 pools which the monkies absolutely love. One is located in the new resort's suites wing, while the other is within the resort's clubhouse grounds and comes with a snaking slide.

The resort is located about 30 minutes away from Singapore, and a short drive away from Sutera Mall. Read more of our adventures here: http://cheekiemonkie.blogspot.com/search/label/Pulai%20Springs%20JB

69. Lotus Desaru

If a waterpark is more of your thing, then the Lotus Desaru, with its very own Waterpark, will no doubt thrill the young ones!

And with the newly-opened Senai-Desaru Highway, it now only takes about 1.5 hours (compared to 2 1/4 hours previously) to reach Desaru from Tuas Checkpoint. Read more of our adventures here: http://cheekiemonkie.blogspot.com/search/label/Desaru

70. Avillion Port Dickson

About 3.5 hours drive from Singapore, Avillion Port Dickson's main highlight has got to be the Water Chalets.

Coupled with a beach, swimming pool & slide, and a petting zoo where kids can touch and feed animals like rabbits, guinea pigs & chickens, it's definitely one place which can keep the kids well occupied.

Read more of our adventures here: http://cheekiemonkie.blogspot.com/search/label/Avillion%20Port%20Dickson

Other accommodation to consider in Port Dickson include Grand Lexis Port Dickson (previously known as Legend Water Chalets) and Thistle Port Dickson Resort.

71. Malacca

Designated as a World Heritage Site in July 2008, the city of Malacca offers more than just chicken rice balls, chendol, Peranakan food (yummy!), pineapple tarts and well... more food.

Kids can go on a historical trail at the Porta de Santiago - an old Portugese fort, St. Paul's Church and Stadthuys - one of the oldest Dutch buildings in the East. Or visit the many museums there - like the Baba * Nyonya Peranakan Museum, Maritime Museum, Stamp Museum & Malaysian Navy Mueseum.

72. Genting Highlands

I'm sure this needs no further introduction. It's just a mayhem of fun, fun and more fun at both the Indoor & Outdoor Theme Parks!

Not to mention the c-c-cold weather up there really ups the shiok factor! Hee. Read more of our adventures here: http://cheekiemonkie.blogspot.com/search/label/Genting%20Highlands

73. Sunway Lagoon

If you prefer having fun while getting wet at the same time, then Sunway Lagoon is the place to be!

We certainly enjoyed BOTH the waterpark and the themepark. Oh, but there's also the Wildlife Park that we love too. So yes, we can't make up our minds. :P

Read more of our adventures here: http://cheekiemonkie.blogspot.com/search/label/Sunway%20Lagoon

74. Kukup

A fishing village located off Pontian, Kukup is one place we had not been back to ever since 2005. Yup, it has been that long! See how small I was then?

Looks like we are due for a short 1N trip back there again soon huh? Hee. But what activities are there for kids? Well, kids will be able to visit the Kukup Mangrove Island - a mangrove wetland - for wildlife sightings and a kelong fish farm. Oh, and of course BBQ by the sea... wait, that's for the adults huh. :D

75. Batam and Bintan

If the sea, sand and travelling by ferry thrills the kids, then Batam & Bintan are worth the consideration as well. Bintan is still unexplored territory for us monkies, while our last Batam getaway was in 2007 when di-di was just 14 months old.

We had stayed at the Harris Resort and Batam View Resort in our previous 2 trips to Batam, and I'm still waiting for the hat-trick! :P

Hope that list has been useful to you so far. 3/4 down and and one final lap to go!!!
