And bringing the kids along, you say? Then the task of finding a spa centre which is kid-friendly gets a little more difficult. Well, that is until we found out about Spa Central... which has THIS on its premises.
Wait what, an entire indoor playground dedicated to kids while parents enjoy a worry-free spa session? YES. In fact, it has more entertainment for kids but I promise I will get to that in a bit.
First, a little history behind Spa Central. Founded in 2009 by a Singaporean couple, Spa Central is a premium boutique spa with massages and treatments priced at affordable prices - a 60min massage session costs S$20! It currently has two outlets: one in Sukajadi (Batam Centre) and the other in Nagoya Hill.
The outlet at Batam Centre is Spa Central's first outlet and is great for couples who are looking for a massage, foot reflexology, facial, hair care or even a good nail care session.
But if you are bringing along the kids, I suggest heading to its Nagoya outlet which is loacted beside Nagoya Hill Shopping Mall.
The good thing about booking a spa package with Spa Central is it offers complimentary pick-up from Batam Center Ferry Terminal if you book at least a 2-hour treatment for 2 persons. So in less than 20 minutes after we disembarked from the ferry, we found ourselves within the soothing environment of Spa Central Nagoya.
The thing about having a Singaporean as the owner is, you can be sure that every aspect within the spa - from the scent to the ambience to the service - is being taken care of, right to the smallest detail.
The monkies had the 60-min AROMATHERAPY MASSAGE (S$24) which involved a traditional massage complemented with a blend of essential oils while my mother-in-law went for the 2-hour CENTRAL FAVORITE spa package (S$48) which combines two of Spa Central's most popular treatments: a 30 minute Body Scrub and 90 minute Aromatherapy Massage.
How was the session for the kids? I was told that they fell asleep during the massage so I'm guessing all was fantastic! 😁
As for the wifey and I, we had the CENTRAL COUPLE spa package (S$120), a 2.5-hour session which includes a 30 minute Body Scrub, 60 minute Aromatherapy Massage, and 30 minute Orange Milk Bath. After all of that, I had the choice of ending the session with either Ear Candling or Foot Reflexology (30 mins) while the wifey could pick from either a Hair Wash & Blow Dry or Ratus (30 mins).
Can I just say I love the couple room that the wifey and I were given? The jacuzzi bath within the room definitely clinched it for us, coupled with how professionally trained the massage and spa therapists are.
And through all of these, what did the monkies get up to when their 60-min session was up?
THIS.
Filled with climbing structures, rope ladders, fireman pole and even a slide, let's just say kids will go crazy at this indoor playground!
And if teens find the play structures a little too childish, there's nothing like NERF guns to up the fun factor.
But that's not all - there's a reason why KidZoopia has the word 'zoo' in its name and it was also the reason that made the monkies squeal in delight... or astonishment, depending whether you are a fan of giant iguanas. 😂
Yup, there is a mini petting zoo at the indoor playground as well where kids get to pet a rabbit, cat, hamster, birds or even a huge (but friendly) iguana!
Kids can also head to the Craft Corner where craft sessions are conducted under the supervision of a staff member.
When the monkies were there, they tried their hands at making Sea Salt Scrub and painting rocks.
With so many activities to keep the monkies occupied, no wonder they were so reluctant to leave even after the wifey and I were done with our spa session.
I should have soaked in my jacuzzi for a little while longer then. Drats.
When it comes to Family Spa, I think there isn't a better spa operator in Batam than Spa Central. Now, parents can drop off their kids at the spa's KidZoopia play area when they go for their massages - no more worrying about the kids when all you want is some relaxing me-time to yourself! 😄
As for accommodation, we were put up at the extremely scenic Harris Resort Barelang.
Only a short 50min ferry ride away from Singapore, the rooms are spacious and come with an extra sofa bed... as Ash will attest to.
But I think its strongest selling point for families is the 3 huge gorgeous pools and 1 waterplay area.
Oh, and there's a small beach too. Great for that impromptu getaway!
If you are staying there, I highly recommend heading to the Barelang Seafood restaurant beside the resort for a meal too. Just tell the resort's conceirge and they will drop you off at the restaurant via a buggy for free.
The unique thing about the restaurant is it is a part-kelong so you can pick your seafood freshly from the waters and have it caught right before your eyes!
What a sumptuous seafood lunch we had!

We last visited Batam when Ash was still a toddler and my, so much has changed since then. More than just a destination for that weekend getaway, parents can now head for a much-needed recharge at Spa Central while the kids are kept occupied at its KidZoopia indoor playground.
If that isn't the best of both worlds, I don't know what is.
